It is refreshing to find a protagonist in a haunted house story that does not deny it as his servants run away, one by one.

Absolutely love your show and narrating style. This story seems to contain themes found in two of M.R.James' tales: the reference to consuming human hearts to preserve youth by the protagonist's uncle is similar to "Lost Hearts." The protagonist in "Lost Hearts" is also haunted by the uncle's victims, and the uncle also comes to a violent, gory end. The element of the demoniacal flies recalls James' "An Evening's Entertainment." Your elegant reading of this story (as with your other pieces) certainly does justice to the tale!

Thank you, Rick! Having just read two volumes of Cowles' work, I think it's fair to say he was emulating M.R. Some good stories though. I've got another by Cowles coming up.

Good short story and narration. This is a good terrifying tale. I like how the protagonist and his servant "take care of this one" towards the end of the story. The narration is fantastic, as always.

Cool ! Had not heard this one before and really enjoyed it . The sound of the flies was really creepy and you had to really admire Jenkins' pluck after all what he had seen and then the dead guy appearing in his chair , and stuff , but he still hung with his boss . You can't get help like that nowadays ! 💀🎱💀

You are gifted with the perfect voice for this genre. The story itself is a little derivative of M. R. James, but I enjoyed it thoroughly. Thank you!!! 👏👏👏

Thank you, Kevin. Yes, it's fair to say Cowles was a bit of an M.R.James copyist, but they are fun stories not widely found on other channels.

I rate tge story B+ the delivery A. It could have been a little longer with a more gradual development of the character and more descriptive of the house, the surroundings, and especially the chilling encounters with ghosts.
