You always give solid advice. We’re the same age I don’t have female figures in my life anymore, or kids, sadly, so I think of you like a sis. One of your pieces of advice has become a mantra for me… “I promise, if you’re feeling depressed and you sit down and have a snack and watch Netflix, you won’t feel better, but if you get up and do the dishes you will feel better.” You give good advice, so trust your own instinct! I’ve always taken “Lady” C with a grain of salt… she’s worse than Meghan: she was assigned male at birth, lied to her husband about it, claimed he was abusive when he tried to divorce her a few WEEKS into the marriage after learning the truth, and then kept his title for decades and decades and decades! Blergh; her attack on you was so unseemly and the last straw for me. You’re a fair and righteous lady and she isn’t really a “Lady” at all. William was too, though. His primary school called him Basher Wills and he was known to go around telling other children that he was going to be the King one day and so he’d better have it all his way. William grew up dutiful and dignified while Harry… didn’t grow up. So maybe Charles had more of a hand with William or maybe they were both doomed and one escaped his poor upbringing to become a sensational Prince of Wales himself… but we can’t really blame the children 👦 In Diana’s tapes her speech coach recorded you can hear them being scolded… as you said, she tried. They all tried. She says in them that Harry was a very quiet and reserved child who most just watched his brother and went along to get along. Most people liked them both as teens, too. Harry just went off the deep end.

You make a great point, thank you for perspective. Upon hearing "hand towels" had to be ironed, it made sense these people are very "different" to put it lightly. So being spoiled as kids makes sense. Yes, like you stated, at least Wills grew up and is making an attempt, H not so much. Like say, e.g., does H have any understanding as to why his family had to protect the Queen from him? If I spoke to my grandmother like that (or any other elderly persons) my parents would've grounded me for life. And M taking care of her grandma? I don't think so. The idea that the 2 of these Windghers think they should have been allowed anywhere near the elderly Queen is totally lost on them. No Meg, Sandringham Summit wasn't about YOU. It was very generous the RF invited them to the funeral. It was just another photo op for them. Could M&H be "Frankensteins" Of their family's making? Do they even know who Frankenstein is? Not the movies. M went to a prestigious uni, yet seems to have never read an entire book. I'm pretty compassionate, but it's beyond difficult to give either one of them a pass. If they used any PR other than a thesaurus, horrible poetry, having used to be celebs, who have lost all their relevancy around at least a decade ago, at your wedding is quite telling. Sorry went off on a tangent. To your point, do any of us know what goes on behind Palace doors? Probably the staff more than the peasants. But still gotta go with a grain of salt on tell all books. Wow - fascinating! Hearing these first-hand details really unlocks my memories of the peak Charles and Diana era, when they were the ultimate royal couple and no-one knew how troubled they were behind the scenes. I was only little at the time but I remember their star power. They had the UK and much of the world totally gripped. I get the impression that, despite her positive characteristics, Diana was hard work. I sympathise with her due to her age and inexperience - she should never have married him at such a young age - but with her obvious insecurities, dissatisfaction with royal protocol and need for external validation (I've heard the "Diana in Her Own Words" recordings), there must have been a lot of "Diana management " necessary on a daily basis. Not to say that Charles was perfect but just this chapter gives the impression that he was relatively caring and compassionate. It just seems like they were just two fundamentally incompatible people thrown together. As for the daily routine, aside from the fact that every day as a senior working royal is scheduled, Charles was ex-Navy so every minute was probably planned. I can imagine that this was quite stifling for a 20-something woman like Diana whose own upbringing had apparently been chaotic. I hate to say this but, as much as I dislike H, I can see why it was quite the shock to his system to leave the constant security of royal homes. Then again, it was his choice and he has live with his decision and pay for his own security. I really get the sense that Charles and Diana were caught in the midst of a transitional era in the royal/aristocratic world, where the old formality was somewhat reducing but many traditional practices still held strong. Having seen the consequences of his parents' mismatched marriage, no wonder William wanted to make sure that Catherine was 100% sure she could cope with it before she joined the family I'm so looking forward to the rest of this series. It will provide some interesting insights into the H situation too.

F.Y.I. they're called Koala and they're not bears. Common misconception. I remember seeing that interview footage somewhere, and Charles actually whispered to Diana "also the Koala". Two things seemed obvious to me, one, that Diana struggled to recall what Williams favourite toy was, also, the only reason Charles said "Koala" was to be gracious towards the Australian host's who had recently given the fluffy toys as a gift. I remember thinking the nanny is probably the only person who really knows what Williams favourite toy is.

I thought it was well balanced and certainly seeing Diana’s jealousy to fire any female she thought was getting too close to the boys is rather distressing. No one can take either parent’s place in a child’s heart. So it seemed cruel to kick someone out that gave your loved one stability.

@@classicaldebbecause the press propagated the story of the young, naive Princess who didn’t know what she was getting into by marrying the Princess. Poor Diana, woe is me. Rubbish. Even her brother said shy Di didn’t exist. She conned the world and destroyed the reputation of a good man - yes, he had faults, but who doesn’t. Vindictiveness however isn’t one of them. So you think there are too many staff? These people had jobs in a time of economic downturn in Britain, what happens to them if they are let go? What happens to the enormous Palaces if there are no staff to maintain them? Maids and footmen don’t just attend to the Royals personal needs though they are a high priority. Natural attrition comes when a household is broken up or the move from one Monarch to the next. As with the deaths of the Queen Mother and then Queen Elizabeth 11.

Diana was troubled but marrying cgarlie did not help as gr never loved Diana. She knew she was being used and ut certainly did nit help her mental attitude. Anyoff u who cannot feel compassion for Diana r cold hearted. Charlie was surrounded by elderly men who didn't like Diana and advised him to keep with camilla. Charlie out on a good act at beginning buy his constant connection and present giving to camilla really rattled Diana. I get it. My first partner was a cheating, mentally torturing person. It was as bad as being physically abused as u end up with no confidence and insecure. Charlie did this to Diana.

Your Diana impression is spot on! Over time I think Diana had highly narcissistic traits maybe even BPD. I also enjoy listening to your videos. I put them on when cooking or doing stuff at home.
@m-alexandria-g
2 ай бұрын
If you look at which celebrities were propped up when BPD was, relatively recently and for the time being, becoming an acknowledged diagnosis, it was Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Princess Diana… histrionic, yes-I agree. All troubled because all had unreliable family and especially men in their lives and felt a desperation to connect with them but were unable to do so. What we learn in disability studies is that typically, if a diagnosis like ADHD is given to males 95% of the time of BPD going to females 98% of the time, studies likely need to be done to refine the diagnostic criteria. Not to quote Tom Cruise going cuckoo bananas in live interviews but psychology IS a soft science-we don’t have the Star Trek machines that can just spit us out our precise chemical and genetic imbalance sheet to be adjusted to an individual diagnosis. When women alternately use charm and hysterics (a word which means, literally, “womb disease… a HYSTERectomy doesn’t remove your emotional outbursts, it removes your womb) to overcome or navigate their developmental struggles in shitty interpersonal relationships, it’s seen as BPD, while a man would be likely to get a different diagnosis… just like when young boys act out their developmental problems in classrooms and are easily diagnosed with ADHD when young girls have ADHD as well but display it differently. All diagnoses will continue to be refined as time goes on-that’s the nature of diagnostic criteria-and I think we may find a lot of them are sexist and bogus. I think Diana absolutely had narcissistic traits but every healthy person will, too… it gives you a healthy self-image, gets you out of bed, etc. to have a healthy amount, just like we all have an ego by definition but egomaniacs have taken it to the extreme. I agree Diana’s display of narcissism was pretty extreme - absolutely, 100% because she really had an arrested development at 19, and then kept trying to make herself more and more desirable to the public to counteract and challenge her rejection from the man she truly wanted to desire her-same as Marilyn and Elizabeth’s lives played out-but I also think that we’re like “NPD? BPD? Anyway, she had emotional issues” is the vibe highlighting the sexism again inherent in those discernments.

So much to say! First, I watched Shauna’s series on this book but am so glad you chose to do it as well. I like your style and voice impressions. Second, after listening to Shauna (and now you) my belief of what qualities Harry saw in Meghan reminded him of his mum. Harry was young and then away for school. He would remember certain things only a child would connect to. The breathy voice (Meghan only started talking like that after Harry) the Doe eyes, the charming but shallow empathy to connect, mercurial, and the tendency to play people against each other for her own self affirmation. The eating disorder. Camera’s easily add ten pounds and depending on how you stand and hold yourself can soften the sharp edges of being too thin. I have no doubt Diana was thinner and more frail looking in reality. I have always thought the RF were more sensitive and kind than people realize. However, they do live a privileged life and arrogance can be a consequence. Once a person acknowledges that I think they are able to see the genuine sincerity and confidence compassion. Last but not least, please don’t take offense to Lady C. She is an aristocrat and clearly has strong feelings about Meghan-who doesn’t? I find some of her claims and videos she attaches to it a stretch as well. However, I don’t think she’s wrong per se, just attaches herself to one example that may not hold up as…well… other examples that could be used.
