👍 Primordial - to the nameless dead Crisis - deathshed extermination Crisis - the Hollowing Cannibal corpse - the wretched spawn Amon Amarth - Twilight of the Thunder god That'd be my favorites! 🍺 Flotsam and Jetsam- doomsday... Man y'all mentioned so many great albums. I'd have a ton of honorable mentions for this one. Trouble, Immolation, King Diamond... One could do a metal blade favorites with just Cannibal corpse and it'd be an incredible list. Growing up you'd find these compilations with Gwar and Lizzy Borden. Find the bands music you'd pursue. I had a big Ole Gwar collection as a teenager and into my 20s...cassettes of course ( I remember when cds first came out, I said "fuck those, I'm sticking with cassettes. Held out until 1994! Did the same cell phones) Anyway, thanks for show fuckerss....😂

Glad to see D.R.I. mentioned, they still play live and tour. The thing about their shows in the "Dealing With It" days was audience participation. Everyone knew the intelligable words ("choruses") and shows were a blast. There was a show when Kirk didn't make it, and the band went on anyway just letting the audience provide vocals. Stage divers would come up, the mic was not grounded some got shocked, T-shirts were wrapped around it the size of a basketball trying to make it safe, no one cared. Did not stop anybody. I was a thrash listener open to punk influences. The genre we called "hardcore" or "crossover' most certainly influenced metal even as it is today. I think the "Death" subsidiary of Metal Blade tried to carry some of that. Always also glad to see the Discharge T-Shirt as a timely reference for archival sake.

After a little searching, per Encyclopaedia Metallum: On 11/9/87, "Nightfall" was released by Active Records, a sub-label of Music for Nations, on 12" and CD. It also says that it was released that same day on 12" by Axis Records. It says Axis Records changed its name to Active Records because there was another label already called Axis Records. So, I don't know if it was the same label with a different name or the other one. It also says in "1987" Axis Records released it on CD as well. It was also released on cassette by FM Records, a Greek label, in '87. In 1988 in was released in the US by Metal Blade on 12", CD and cassette. It was also released on 12" by Woodstock Discos, a Brazilian label, in '88. And since I listed it, "Court in the Act" was released on 12" in 1983 on Roadrunner and on Neat Records. In 1984 it was released by Metal Blade on 12" and cassette.

On 8/6/21 we'd originally planned to go see Cheap Trick in Ft. Worth. Then Mothership was playing the same night in Dallas, so we decided to go see them. At the very last minute we found out The Skull was playing at a brewery (which is probably why we hadn't heard about it) in Arlington. We decided to stick with the plan and go see Mothership. The Skull played Houston the following night and then on the 8th in Austin, which would be their final show. Eric died on 8/22/21. Not going to that show still gets me.

WOW, now THIS is a TALL task TOP 3 M.B. releases of ALL time, which in my case would be '80 before ANY other decade which would be, if i gave you 3 now, they would change 5mins later as there's SOO Many AMAZING abums and EP's here and there too from that mighty decade, now i see there's much debate and, understandably confusion of licencing and what and who and which label, now without looking up anything and can guide you through some things here as you are all in on something, yes Metal Blade signed a lot of band and released the US version of an European release, similar yet different like big label bands (though Metal Blade has since many years been a major label, look at the dead wax on the later MB releases and you will find mastered by Capitol records-EMI in Europe which after the fall of music industry due to the digitalization of how music is being sold, EMI is no longer a company, why? well as opposed to Warner, Polygram/Phonogram-today Universal, which were formerly their TV/Film side, see? and Sony (former CBS) they only dealt with music, like BMG/RCA so EMI and it's catalog is now owned by Universal Music), and big bands would usually have a deal with one major for Europe and one for the US and a 3rd party for Japan, like Maiden were signed to EMI, still is, just under Universal, in Euorpe, and las time checked were signed with Epic/CBS-Sony Music in the states, now with indie labels, and in this case as the 80's went on the M.B. were one of the bigger (metal) indie labels, and they would have a good deal with Roadrunner, until Roadrunner started offices in the US and tried and ill fated attempt at re branding themselves as Roadracer, this didn't last long, just like the sub label R/C, much confusion there, now later int the 80's Roadrunner got a permanent distro through CBS/Sony Music, though i think that might have changed to Warner since, though M.B is distributed by Sony Music today, but back in the day there were many licensing deals that M.B did with European labels/releases despite their Roadrunner set up, so you got releases by bands that were signed to Noise Int, Steamhammer, MFN (even MFN did licence releases within Europe with Roadrunner, like my old Master Of Puppets LP, which shows BOTH labels, but the catalog nr is a Roadrunner nr, though it has MFN labels, and no this is NOT a bootleg) ALSO as mentioned Peaceville hooked with MFN for a short while in the mid 90's, and as you might know MFN went bankrupt, got bought up, just like Noise, which were bought by Sanctuary Group (yes, also the MGNT that has a certain Rod Smallwood), and guess who owns the MFN back catalog? Sony Music, SO Peaceville has in recent years, when they bought the right to many a defunct label, and then re release them, smart move, which is why Ralph has CD copy of Ancient Dreams, although this unrelated to their earlier collab. with MFN in the mid 90's, though YES Ancient Dreams was released by Under One flag (MFN sub label, one of many) and on Metal Blade in the States, though, there were selected releases amongst ALL of these back in the 80's, hence Frost, on M.B first, THEN Combat, which would have a similar set up like M.B had with Roadrunner, with MFN in Europe, much NERDISM here in other words, but being born into the music biz, these are things i learned too, in detail, still remember and more or less are on track with here and now too 🙂 now i will watch the rest of the Episode, as i'm only 12mins in when writing this hehe, i maybe i'll try and pick a top 3 of the moment later, exciting episode, GO HUDSON VALY SQAURES, much love from Norway 🙂

If I had to limit it to five: *FATES WARNING - Awaken the guardian* *ARMORED SAINT - Symbol of salvation* *LIZZY BORDEN - Visual lies* *NASTY SAVAGE - Nasty Savage* *LIEGE LORD - Master control* If I am allowed two honorable mentions: *Y&T - Yesterday and today LIVE* (almost forgot about that this album was on Metal Blade, but if I remember they lost their deal at Geffen and I believe MB gave them the chance to release this ("last") album at the time in 1991. *FALCONER - Chapters From A Vale Forlorn* ( just because its an awesome album, band and singer, and nobody had mentioned it!) PS: Wanted to mention *FIFTH ANGEL - Fifth Angel* since I do own the ReReRelease, but that originally was a Shrapnel/Roadrunner, and then later Epic ReRelease, and now obviously the rights belong to Metal Blade? ( So that would be "cheating", I guess? :-)
