Why the hell is "this so....80's"? The movie's setting is France during 15th century; the characters are all clothed in 15th century attire; the movie is based on a novel published in 1831; the soundtrack sounds medieval....what makes this movie "so...80's?! Stupid-ass comment.

DAMN. I was going with the theory that as time progresses, the portrayals of Esmeralda get stronger. This one takes a step back, though- the 1956 one is far, far stronger.

Fan fact: Dancing publicly was hella provocative for a woman back in the time. So it's a nice touch of the movie which portrays that she was forced to dance and she is more modest at her clothing and moves.I just wish they have made her more emotional and into the rythm. I love how the movie has sticked to the book but i historical accuracy as well that makes sense for the plot.

That would be dancing? Are you kidding me? She's just walking around and twirling, she's not even hitting her tambourine on time, not even the clapping is on time. Moreover, she's clearly dancing unwillingly, I mean look at her face. In the novel, not only does Esmeralda dance to gain money and survive, she does it because she loves it: she's cheerful and joyful, like she's in love with the life, whilst this Esmeralda is always serious, she's insecure and like afraid of everything. Who would be entertained by such a thing? If you can call it performance...They are charmed just because she's beautiful, she could just stand there and being admired, like a model.

Actually, no - the first film version of "Notre-Dame-de-Paris" was in 1905 and Henry Vorins played Quasimodo. Then there came the 1911, 1917, 1922 (with Booth Conway as Quasimodo) adapations, but as far as I know - the earliest surviving film version is Lon Chaney's 1923 version. :)

Esmeralda looks too white, young and inmature. The 1956 Esmeralda was perfect! This Esmeralda sucks, her dance is shitty. When I watched the 1956 dance I was in a trance. Not only was her dancing wonderful but also her voice was gorgeous. When they make Notre Dame movies, Esmeralda's dance sequence must be amazing and addicting to watch just like the 1956 version.

@Aerodil No no, I understand that part. But I was looking forward to a well choreographed dance performed by this actress and was quite disapointed since Esmeralda is well known for her dance which is supposed to be as enchanting and beautiful as she is. Take the 1956 version for example, I'm a girl and if I was a guy I'd be so turned on by that HAHA! This dance was disapointing, it's like watching a boxing match but the boxers decide to play patty-cake instead, you know what I mean? :P

@Nefus2 Correct me, if I'm wrong (I really don't know for sure. I haven't even read the book yet), but I saw many comments which say her skin isn't right (so you can tell, it's a pure coincidence that I took your comment for this). I believe, I read somewhere that Clopin "stole" Esmeralda out of a house or swapped her with a beautiful child out of a rich(er) house. So it could be her real skin color, couldn't it? Just a question, no offending...
