He also told Katniss at the end of the first one that he “didn’t want to forget,” despite her wanting to forget. And then it’s his mind that’s wiped and warped and she’s left alone with clear memories of all of the horrors they’ve been through.

*Minor book spoiler* "We're not progressing with the plot without Effie" is pretty much how the author, Suzanne Collins, felt when they were making the Mockingjay movies. Effie has a much smaller role in the book version of Mockingjay, but Collins loved Elizabeth Banks's portrayal so much that she insisted they expand the movie role beyond what she'd written.

Remember in Catching Fire after Johanna yelled about setting Snow’s backyard on fire. The others stared at her and she said, “He can’t hurt me. There’s no one left that I love.” She refused to be sold/used - and Snow had everyone she loved killed. He also had people Haymitch loved killed, but for a different reason. Most of the victors - especially those from outlying districts - suffered from PTSD and how the Capito/Snowl treated them after. And yes, read the books.

I just reread them for the fourth time and it's so good. I am currently rereading the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and they really should have made that book 2 movies.

District 13 was officially known ONLY for graphite mining, but their primary focus was actually nuclear weapons and science, not actually full military. Kinda how D2 is officially known only for 'masonry' but their primary function is actually training the Peacekeepers and military.

What district are people Primarily trained for the people of D2? Because No Peace keeper can be from the district they originally had come from. Would it be D1? Or just random people from various districts? (And the Capitol)

I always comment this on all hunger games reaction lol but Boggs in the book is like really funny and endearing. he's not in a lot of scenes but you can tell he cared about katniss. he's one of my favorite side characters.

Me too. One of the very few people in 13 who cared about her beyond her status as the Mockingjay

Boggs was one of the only people who thought of Katniss as a child and he wanted to protect her, he clearly wasn’t happy about what they were doing with her. He definitely had the dad vibes going. When he carried her to the hovercraft in district 8 and she puked on him and he sighed and then covered her up with sacks to keep her warm. I loved Boggs.

If you do read the books, and then watch the films again, I think you'll pick up a lot more. The directors for these films were subtle and incredibly thorough about the world building and they did a fantastic job of adapting the books visually. I especially love that they got rid of the first-person narration and used the camera work (including the shaky cam which I personally really like in the context it was used), the lighting, and the colors to explain how Katniss felt. I get really sick of a movie or a TV show real fast when I'm talked at by a disembodied character (usually the main) who is explaining things I should be shown. I want the challenge of paying attention and figuring things out through the visual context given, and in these films, there's so much that I'm still finding after all this time. It's wonderful.

The Hanging Tree song gets me every time because of that incredibly powerful hydroelectric dam scene in District 5. The fact those people ran full pelt into armed guards to get the explosives into the dam, knowing 75% of them would almost definitely die, is beyond heroic and heart-wrenching. The same with the guy in District 7 shouting "if we burn, you burn with us" before detonating the bombs. This series of films are on par with The Lord of The Rings for me. Phenomenal. I first got invested with Rue and the death in the next film that Suzanne Collins regrets writing is the one I'm most gutted about (though there are obviously a few other very sad deaths in it too).

SPOILERS i think you’re talking about prim, and i didn’t know that she regretted adding her death. i fully understand why she would but i honestly think that’s the most impactful death in the series at least to katnis. (i think cinnas hit me the hardest) the only reason she was the face of the revolution was for prim, and i think it’s a harsh reality of war. you loose things you love while fighting for your freedom, and sometimes those things are what motivated you to fight in the first place.

@@lol-lb5pm - SPOILERS: .. Prim's death makes sense; it's the senseless/narratively unnecessary death that Suzanne regrets (Finnick). His death hits me hardest, followed by Rue and Cinna. Prim's was sad, especially when Katniss lets her grief out at Buttercup, but it is very impactful, as you say. Katniss did everyting to protect her and she died anyway.

Not sure if you realize who a couple of the characters truly are in real life. "Senna" is the 4 time grammy award winning musician Lenny Kravitz whose music dates back to the 60's. Also the guy that plays the Game maker "Plutarch" is the famous actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman who's been in dozens of movies and won both academy and golden globe awards. Unfortunately he overdosed in 2014 which is before the release of the 4th hunger games movie. He would have played more of a roll in the 4th installment but he died and it's why the movie is dedicated to him in the credits at the end. You are a very good up and coming reaction channel KZitemr. I have really enjoyed your perspective, comments and genuine surprise reactions to the movies you watch. Keep up the good work and I can see you having many subs one day. 👍

The opening of this one does feel quite off from the second. The backstory from the book is that Katniss and Finnick are labelled "mentally disoriented" and kept in the psych ward when they reach District 13. I believe it is due to the PTSD from the games. Finnick is worse off than she is. Regardless, it keeps them from really "joining" the community of District 13, whereas Gale signs up for their army and Prim and the Mother being working in the hospital. Everyone in 13 gets a daily schedule where their day is planned out for them. It's kind of Communistic. Katniss is like, "nah, I'm not doing any of that mess." The only person in 13 she really likes is Boggs (Mahershala Ali), who is great and doesn't get enough to do in these films, imo. Interested to see your reaction to Part 2. These two can be tough emotionally, and it is awkward how they are split into two when it's one book.

Love his reactions! Funny & insightful. He really picks up on nuances of the story - writing and visuals. I don’t know if it’s a big enough ‘reaction’ movie but I’d love to see him react to a movie like Primal Fear. I think he would lock on to the under rated story telling, camera work, performances... In any case, subscribed! Look forward to more.
