I wish my sex ed included information like this to help people without typical female organs understand facts so they don't spread misogynistic rumors and to help people with typical female organs recognize and protect themselves against misogyny. Another terrible myth: online I saw one boy suspect his girlfriend of cheating on him because her nipples were shaped strange (he thought someone else had been...doing something to them). One person I knew believed he could tell that the breasts of one woman he knew had been groped a lot by her boyfriend and that it caused them to be shaped like they were (instead of...genes, weight, hormones, maybe an ill-fitting bra). I tried to convince him that's not how that works and he said no, if you do it "multiple multiple times" then it does happen. He also told me he had just about zero sex ed where he grew up.

@brickbunny9686

If anyone is relying on the Hymen to tell them anything about a person, they have a significantly warped perspective on life. Don't over value sex kids! It is limited to only 2 things, physical pleasure and baby making, that is it, end of story. Don't try to make it mean something that it doesn't mean. If you do, you distort any relationship you get in, warping it into something that becomes easily fragile and not well founded. When you over value sex, you treat it like it is more then what it is, more then the limits of what it can do. Too many often add value to it that it doesn't deserve, across many cultures and those cultures often times have very harsh disagreements between them. Extreme disagreements based a lot on how they deferentially chose to over value sex. One culture see's one set of over values around the subject of sex, viewing various different benefits and problems one way, while another culture over values sex in a different way and views a different set of benefits and problems from a different or even opposite view point. Either way, both cultures, plus more cultures, all over value sex in one way or another, resulting in a high amount of controversy and even extreme conflicts. Simply allowing yourself to realize the limits of sex will put you in a much better position to address it and do so without hypocrisy. No need to tell anyone if they should or shouldn't have sex, nor look up nor down on them for wanting or not wanting sex, or if they enjoy or don't enjoy it. The main problem, is all the deception the over valuing of sex comes with and how contentious the subject ends up becoming, due to so many people being so willing to let their willingness to over value sex run away with them, resulting in distortions in view points, that makes those contradictions and conflicts between social groups so easy.
@brickbunny9686
4 жыл бұрын
@Scientific Humanist That wont amount to much if you don't have a good relationship with the person you made a baby with and can't/won't be a good parent or be a parent at all. Think things threw. Don't stop at the fact that you can make a baby and your DNA will spread. You won't be in control of that DNA that leaves you. The person who inherits it will and they are going to have their own life to live and learn from. By that point, it is an entirely different subject separate from sex all together. Don't over value sex. Sex is a tool for only 2 things, that I already listed. Treating sex like it is more then it is, is like saying a Hammer "IS A BUILDING" or a wrench "IS A CAR." It would be total BS. Sex is not the baby, nor it is the parenting skills and behaviors that help raise the baby.

Learning new things can and should happen when possible. It's all about sharing ideas and knowledge and educating people. Being shocked just doesnt make sense. Not everyone has a source of knowledge. That's why we have many many different ways to learn information. This video is just one more way. Racism isnt cool, but teaching it to people why it hurts others is key to show them why it is wrong. Everyone lives a different life and dont have access to every bit of information and we all grow up in a different environment. This and other seemingly "shocking" videos are there to help inform someone who may not know what to look up or know what they dont know to be true. Societal progress can probably be measured in correlation to how much that given society has gotten over its fear/mystic worship of everything related to the vulva. Humans, virginity, menstruation, etc.
@astodone9022
4 жыл бұрын
While I agree that the hymen is a terrible way to tell if a woman is virgin, there is actually a VERY good reason why people in the third world are obsessed with “the vulva”. If you’re a loyal wife, then no matter how many other girls your husband is humping, you can at least be sure that you’re pregnant with YOUR own child. But if you’re a loyal man and your wife is having sex with 1 let alone multiple other guys behind your back, you have absolutely zero certainty that she will give birth to your child. That’s the whole reason why men are so territorial about their girlfriends. A man’s entire genetic line of descent is at risk if his wife cheats on him. If the wife gets away with it behind his back, he could end up spending his time and efforts on a kid that isn’t even his. This literally can’t happen for women because a woman can’t mistake her pregnancy for some other woman’s. You women can’t relate to the paranoia that a man experiences in this regard when in a long term relationship. A cheating wife is game over.
@RoyalReyna
4 жыл бұрын
@@astodone9022 Wow where to even begin with the logic on this one. 1. None of what you've said jas anything to do with the vulva 2. So its okay for women to be cheated on, but its a problem when men are cheated on? 3. 'Women will never live with the paranoia of raising someone elses kid'...? Men will never understand or have to live with the paranoia of having to have the kid in the first place. You'll never know what it's like to have someone see you as a baby-making factory that's okay to own, use and apparently cheat on. You're disgusting
@astodone9022
4 жыл бұрын
RoyalReyna - So is your mom a “baby factory” because she decided to have you? Wtf is that line of thought? I’m talking about in the context of a women consensually deciding to have children. Now I’m not justifying cheating for either men or women. Think about it: why do humans *fundamentally* hate cheating? Why don’t we all just become polygamous? There’s a reason for that. If your husband is polygamous and ends up having a kid with another wife, then he’s probably going to share his attention and time and effort fathering another woman’s child besides just yours. That means your kids get half the resources and attention they were supposed to get if the man was monogamous, so in nature it’s pretty detrimental for a female to have a cheating husband. It makes sense why women would dislike cheating. And that’s perfectly fine, but it is far, FAR worse for men. The double standard here is for a reason. A man whose wife cheats on him ends up waiting 9 months only to find out that he’s wasted his time and effort building a new life with a woman that gave birth to another man’s sperm. Not only did you just waste 1, maybe more years of your time with this woman, but her attention & efforts are 0% on your children. At least women have say a 50% split attention, of their cheating husband, to raising the woman’s kids. For a man, his children *don’t even exist yet.* The care and shelter you’ve likely provided for the woman during her pregnancy ended up benefiting absolutely nothing to your genetic line. Worse: what if you never find out? What if the woman gets away with cheating and your blood and sweat goes out to raising some other man’s kid? Any man who is THAT naïve to get deceived, would get his genetic line immediately ended, and whatever gene in his DNA responsible for this mentality would die with it by disappearing from the genetic pool over time. Men are territorial because it works. Genetically, it means a man is more likely to catch a cheating wife and immediately get out of that situation before his descent becomes a dead end. Also stop pretending women are little angels that never cheat. Women don’t cheat as much as men, I’ll admit, but men don’t surpass women by much. Typically a woman wants one of 2 things: a healthy man, whose offspring have a high chance of surviving hardships, and a resourceful man, who can adequately feed and shelter her kids. Most women settle for one. But in nature, the cunning woman who manages to achieve both goals is the one whose children are most likely to survive and thus pass on their genes. A lot of women will “marry” the resourceful rich guy, but then have sex with a sexy looking athlete behind his back. If the man happens to be both sexy and rich, then that satisfies her enough that she doesn’t need to cheat. But men have it flipped, they don’t care about the quality of the woman since their investment is literally just a 10 minute orgasmic ejaculation. Men don’t have to go through 9 months of life threatening gestation, they can just spray and pray... You literally said it: women have a paranoia of having the kid in the first place! It’s a long, arduous investment of 9 months. You wouldn’t want to give birth to a weak child from some skinny unhealthy man. Worse; give birth to a child only for the father to run away/not be able to help feed the kid. Women have a lower sex drive than men because women intuitively try to take their time before wasting a pregnancy on a useless man.
@RoyalReyna
4 жыл бұрын
@@astodone9022 I'm not going to finish reading all of that because your logic is just crazy. No, my mom isn't a baby making factory because she chose to have me, your logic on that makes no sense. Im saying that what you said, implying that its okay for men to cheat because of whatever evolutionary process is absurd and equates women to property. You are clearly saying you think it is less wrong when men cheat "because women can't accidentally care for other women's babies". To be cheated on, whether it results in a pregnancy or not is terrible for anyone, not more so for men. Also, if a guy cheats on his wife and gets someone else pregnant, either he's neglecting that child, or divorcing his wife, resulting in one or both not getting his time or affection. Its not some 50/50 split unless he's living a double life with two families, which happens but not that often. I never once said that women were angels or didnt cheat on their husbands, idk where you got that from, but to think that it's automatically more painful or hard for them is a lie. The idea that you can't love or raise a kid that isn't biologically yours isn't a natural thing, it's a societal ideal. If you raised a kid and loved them, to find out that they're not biologically yours hurts because you've been lied to, but if you really loved them before, you would still love them after. Sure people want to continue their blood line, but now we care more about having a family and continuing our legacy, which you can do with kids that aren't biologically yours. I'm not saying that being tricked into raising a child that's not yours isn't wrong or terrible, bc it is, but that doesn't give men the right to be territorial over their gf/wife or to cheat on them. If you think your partner would cheat, why would you stay? If they got pregnant and you have ANY doubt, why wouldn't you get a test? In conclusion you make little to no sense and I won't be reading any of your responses or replying to them. I hope you can realize that double standards are wrong and harmful for everyone in that society.

@@paramountx Yes. That made me smile too. Just 10 years ago that would have been expressed in this way as a play on words, considering also the light humor mixed in with this channel, but this day and age I could believe it was expressed in this way to avoid any social justice warriors' outcry. I suppose he could have said "1 in 2000 to 20,000 people" instead. :-)

If we're going to be submitting questions, here's one: Is there a scientific reason why the sound of running water can make you have the urge to go to the bathroom? Been wondering about that for years.

They did actually make a video on this one :) I can’t remember the exact title but try searching “schishow running water” or something like that :)

As far as i remember its an evolutionary reason. Our ancestors peed in rivers and so on so that the pee got flushed away so predators would not smell ot later on and find them. But im not 100% sure its been a while til i learned this somewhere

To anyone is confused about why Hank says "people with vaginas" instead of "women"/"girls": Hank + the SciShow staff are being accurate science communicators regarding the beautiful complexity of physiological sex vs psychosocial gender identity, and they are also being conscientious of intersex/trans/non-binary identities. ^If anything in that paragraph didn't make sense to you, *that is ok*. These things are NOT taught well, if at all, so it's perfectly understandable to feel confused and unsure. If you are interested in understanding more about sex vs gender, check out this educational outreach presentation I made on the science of sex and gender: docs.google.com/presentation/d/1ndAbRYMxOfEEdxE6Ac3m-fYVp5JQjNs_83pLTpj8YAA/edit?usp=sharing Also feel free to @ me in the comments or reach out on Twitter to @thekeeliasilvis if you have more questions. I am happy to help you learn!

but its a science show and only women are born with hymens so its kinda dumb and just makes them seem like a bunch of pandering pc babies. that and the fact they have deleted any comment that mentions this

Also, the hymen do not have nerves, so no the person won't feel pain during their first time because of the hymen breaking. The pain some people feel is due tension in the muscles, so if the person is relaxed they will likely not feel any pain at all. The same way if they are nervous everytime it's likely they will feel pain during penetration everytime.

also being nervous reduces the amount of lubrication, so the friction can cause small tears and inflammation to the surrounding skin.

I first learned most of this a few years back, and it really surprised me to find out everything I had been told about this topic was completely wrong. I just shake my head whenever I continue to see the myths spread on television and film. My guess is it started with some super protective parents telling their young daughters about the 'immense pain and intense bleeding' from losing their virginity to scare them away from having premarital sex. Then it just got spread from there until the lies became 'truth'. This should definitely be taught more.

Bizarrely enough, I've seen Japanese erotic games that get that detail about there being different shapes of hymen correct. A pretty impressive feat from a country where these games are normally pixelated!

Almost like taking the medical advice of ancient philosophers, whom never touched a human body, was a mistake.
