24k yen (about $215) seems reasonable. All the other parts need to be moved out out the way to gain access. Ignition plugs (especially the modern types) have precious metals and precise machining. It is even more expensive to replace an alternator, because it is hidden deeper. (Perhaps 24k yen is abnormally expensive in Japan. I do not know.) This is the problem with miniaturization and "throw away" consumerism. It is difficult to make something compact while easy to service. In addition, many products today are not meant to be DIY repaired. Some products are designed in a way so that you CANNOT perform a DIY repair. Perhaps there is a good reason, for when a person's life and safety is important (for example, the car steering system, or airbag system). But otherwise, it is meant to increase corporate income, or avoid liability lawsuits due to improper DIY repair. Apple is a classic example of a corporation that has bad repair service. Often, they charge more than $700 for a new motherboard. But, a moderately skilled technician can find the broken part (perhaps a 10 cent part!), and repair it, in under half an hour. After including labor, the cost would be less than buying a new motherboard, and it is more environmentally responsible. The solenoid on the detergent dispenser on our dishwasher burned out (actually, it almost caught fire!!!). The entire door module had to be replaced, because you cannot buy a replacement solenoid by itself. In addition, when the solenoid failed, it shorted out and burned the TRIAC on the control circuit board. If I knew better, I would have replaced the TRIAC by myself (unfortunately, it would not be successful if the short also damaged the processor). It cost about $450 for the small circuit board. This is quite ironic, because our previous dishwasher (made by the same manufacturer, but labelled as a different brand) also nearly caught fire. The heating element melted and charred the plastic basin inside! In both instances, we noticed the burning plastic smell and shut it off before a fire started. I prefer products that can be easily repaired. I can do it myself because I am a knowledgeable person. It is cheaper, and it also means there is less waste! In the future, I possibly will take up the design career. I hope to make designs that are more robust and easier to repair. P.S. Thank you for the English subtitles! Apart from loving my own heritage (European), I also highly admire the Japanese culture. I hope to learn the Japanese language in the future. (Currently, I am focusing on other things.)

Thank you for the comment. In fact, I'm not so good at English. So I think there are a lot of strange expressions. I'm glad you read the subtitles. I was worth a hard time. Thank you in the future.
