Can’t think of any sports/activity where confidence is more important than archery. So easily lost and hard to get back. Suppose that’s part of the challenge which makes it all the more rewarding to persist and work through it. More than just shooting it’s personal development and growth.

Really lost my confidence last weekend at the Dutch 3D Archery Championships. Sunday was the single shot Hunter Round. First target got me points on the board, but the following 9 were complete misses. Confidence hit rock bottom till I took a break, wrote off the competition as a bad day at the office, relaxed, took a breather and just got on with the second half, just enjoying a day out in the woods with my bow and arrows. And the shooting improved a lot. It was hard to come back from those 9 misses, but using that break to reasses things really helped.

Great video. I came to archery from a firearms back groud. This comes into play a little with firearms, but not even close to it does with archery

I tell ya h'what: something about ol' uncle Grizzly Jim giving me a little pep talk on my archery truly lights a little fire under me and motivates me to get back to the proverbial drawing board. Thanks for always being there for me, pal🤘🏼 Cheers!

Great video and topic. I use the single arrow to train my mind that every shot counts. It's a good way to build confidence for me. Thanks for sharing

The mental part of archery is a big part of shooting well. Been there, still working on it, its not the equipment, its the operator. Great video, Jim!

Great stuff, Jim! It's hard to find confidence once you lose it, you have to rebuild it. I agree with you completely. Thanks for sharing!

Great advice for any archer!! Our club's 3D course has a baboon that just gets me every time I walk up to the shot. I had to work hard to overcome it, now I drill it every time and it's the target I go back to when I am not feeling confident because I know I have its number.

You know, I watch your videos and after meeting you in person I always think, "What a nice fucking guy," I hate being outshot by Nice Guys, it makes it so hard to be pissed and bitter at them 😔

"There are no problems, only learning opportunities" "There are no failures, only successes in what doesn't work". Perhaps a little flippant sounding I know but if you can keep these kind of ideas in mind it can help when things don't work out.

Is there a way to internalise this while outwardly saying you can’t do something? Like how to be the guy that always says they’re going to fail the exam but still gets the top marks in the class every time. How do I tell internalise confidence in hitting the mark every time while telling your friends you hate this target and you’re going to lose this arrow.

Only picked up a bow this time last year Jim. Since then I consumed pretty much everything you had posted in chronological order. It seems (and please correct me if I’m wrong) as if you’re still coming to terms with the 3d’s, but you’re over the worst? I would love to pick your brains about it over a nice IPA! 😂 I work in mental health, hence the interest. You’ll be ‘right. Just keep on doin what you’re doin. 👍🏻

I have to ask. What feathers do you use? I have never seen any that wide from base to the top of the shield cut. The best I know or buy are Tru Flights, but they are about 1/4” lower than yours.
