I'm working on my own webcomic about the trans experience, more specifically on how hard it can be to even _realize_ you're trans, especially as an _adult_ where it's easy to feel like "it's too late" and "why didn't I figure this out sooner" can feed self doubt even more. The fact that Heartstopper is so successful fills me with a lot of joy.

Yeah, and something I've encountered is like an infantilization from family Doctor n such. Where they start being like: "how come you didn't feel like this sooner like other patients, are you sure thats how you really feel? Maybe should get evaluated to be certain?" It can just be super demoralizing. Specially when people who have influence over your life aren't well versed enough to deal with Non Binary or trans experiences. Best of luck on your work!

We seriously need more teen shows like this. I’m 15 and watched Heartstopper, and I absolutely love it. It’s so hard to find a show geared toward my demographic that doesn’t go heavy on adult topics. Having something be so fluffy and warm with the character interactions is something I miss. It’s hard find a series that’s in the middle, something not a kids show but that’s not something for adults. Finding that middle ground is hard so hopefully in the future they make more media like this

Hey great video as always. Just a quick warning about the ending to any authors out there. Ok, so I watched a video by the author of Heartstoppers, and if I remember correctly she actually had a lot of trouble getting her book traditionally published after having published online. She was a VERY rare VERY special case. So the recommendation at the end to just "upload" your stories online, shouldn't be taken universally. Please be aware that most of the time, if you publish something online, your chances of traditional publishing drop nearly to zero. Heartstoppers is supper special for a LOT of reasons. If you make a story and you want to profit from it, please deeply consider how you publish it and how you plan to profit from it. Webtoons works only for a small number of people, as does traditional publishing. So just be cautious and do as much research as possible. If you are just posting for fun, then none of this applies to you! Go have a great time!
@linesinmotion
2 жыл бұрын
Oh absolutely, I'm pretty sure she admitted on their KZitem channel that it was a rare case. It wasn't really me saying "go get published!!!!!", more than a "hey, those few comic pages you're working on but don't think anyone will like? Chances are someone out there will" kinda thing. But I do agree with everything you said!

I knew I was gay since 12 but I could never accept that part of me. For me, it was an anomaly, something that I should be guilty of, something that I can just hide and live a 'normal' life. 8 years later, I chanced upon this book and something about it struck. Nobody had ever told me that two boys can also fall in love, that gay is something more than a category, as pure as any other romance. Since then, I have come to accept my sexuality, hopelessly fallen in love with a straight guy, got my heart broken and it's been a hell of a life but I'm a lot more comfortable in my skin. So I'm forever grateful this book and many other works representing us exists, as small things go a long way..♥️

Great video! I honestly didn't expect to like Heartstopper (the show, still need to read the comic) as much as I did, but a lot of it just hit a lil bit too close to home with my own experiences in a way I hadn't really seen before, and a lot of your points sum it up really well. Although, it was weird, cuz I watched Heartstopper immediately after finishing It's a Sin, and I cannot even begin to describe the tonal whiplash I experienced from that decision, lol

I wish that heartstopper existed when I was a teenager if a graphic novel or tv show like this had existed back then I might not have repressed my personality and stayed closeted until my mid 20s and could have saved myself years of emotional and mental anguish. Even though I'm in my late 30s now I still feel the effects of being so repressed and I have to say that these books and the tv adaptation are so beautiful, sweet and uplifting. I'm so happy that young LGBTQ teens have such a great example as this series to show them that they can live happy uplifting lives and dont have to hide there true selves.

@@linesinmotion Thank you, but is just... is so frustrating. I feel like feel good fluff based stories that popularize like this tend to set a standard that is difficult for everyone to adhere to. In the same way that other series tend to center on the extrictly dramatic and sexual aspect of it. Like, you can either go to one extreme or the other, but go the middle and you'll get nothing. Is really so complex to be a creator in these times where queer media is blossoming in so many ways shapes and colors, yet at the same time more than half of it gets discarded by the general public because is the "wrong kind" of portrayal or they lack something or the other that other more popluar series do in heaps. But, ah, do something the straights agree with, and the stars are yours...

I remember reading this years ago when before the field trip arc (been awhile) I accidentally dropped it out of other hobbies and stories I enjoy… Added with this comic literally making me cry multiple times from how nice and reassuring it feels after the anxious scenes that made me genuinely feel anxiety with the accuracy. It actually gave me more self confidence in my thoughts and choices. Author did an amazing job at relating this comic to teens, especially in the big “existential crisis” shit. And making it free to read on Tapas (usually needing to have like a bit of money to access popular titles), idk if it changed or not but I really hope not. Now time to see where tf I left off lol.

Thanks a lot for this vídeo, Dani!!! Speaking for myself, as a gay man, I feel very happy and full of joy with Heartstopper. I know, for my own experience, how the world erases and considers imposible a man falls in love with another man, or a man feels atracted with another man. The desire for a man is always seen as something inferior, a signal of weakness, or a bad thing. The compulsory heterosexuality is very strong, tô the point to me, a gay man, question myself if I could be bi, because the world puts that EVERYONE feels, or have to feel, atracted to women, in some level. There is no posibility that are people who don t feel atracted to women, and if are, they are disgraceful. Two men is always seen as disgust, as something imposible. Because of that, I feel very happy with Heartstopper success, and shows the urgency of more gay stories, being in manga, TV shows, books, movies, comic books...and more gay characters, anyway. And how is necessary talk about them. Again, thank you só much, you are wonderful!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
