Kyle, Wow, your skills as a teacher really come out in this video! It’s not only a plethora of helpful information for anyone struggling with their mental health, but the way you “teach” the subject matter is outstanding. I could have listened to you speak for an hour or more! Your students must adore you! Big hugs to Jenny. ♥️

I truly need to say THANK YOU. My husband has been battling the same cancer your wife suffers from . He was diagnosed at 62 three years ago. It has been a rollercoaster with 2 brain surgeries and 2 clinical trials and now back to chemo. It has been all on me as he has no family left and we have no children. My parents are both 89 which at times I also have on my plate. I cannot express how much I look forward to watching and hearing both you and your wife’s videos. I know what you are going through and I can say you both are incredible in your handling of everything. Just please don’t stop making videos - they mean so much and help us tremendously. You and your family our always in our thoughts and prayers. Stay strong. Thank you .🙏💕

Thank you for this Kyle. I'm a carer for my husband who has terminal pancreatic cancer. It's so stressful and every day is difficult. We're now fifteen months past diagnosis. We were told at the time that he would have six to twelve months. He's done so well with his chemo treatment but sadly that has to stop last October. He's now been prescribed steroids to help with the pain. We live in North Northumberland, England. Take care Kyle as I know what you're going through. Love to you all 💞

It’s so stressful! The thing that I should have asked was for extra help. My daughter was a big help but we definitely could have used more. We took care of my husband until he passed in December of this year. It was so hard. I already had anxiety but when my husband was diagnosed with cancer in May of 2022 my anxiety was over the top. I always felt so overwhelmed! I miss him so much! We did everything together. I’m 59 and he was 64 when he passed. I can relate to everything you have been talking about. But its up 2 us who we want to see ,[ also free] also our govt will pay a spouse to be a caregiver to sick partner so you dont have to go out and work , lots of help in nz for people

Fantastic video on mental health Kyle. While caring for my mother I used to take the dog for a 25 minute walk by myself every day, it was my time to shut down and let go of all the stress. Mental health is so important and so often overlooked, especially, by men whom for the most part believe they should power through mental health issues. You really hit the nail on the head! I am my husband's caregiver (stage 4 head and neck squamous cell) 24/7. He was diagnosed last August and is undergoing chemo and immunotherapy. He had radiation treatments. I do it all. I am exhausted and scared. I have no time for myself. I did finally make an appointment with my PC after she moved to the city he is receiving treatments.(an hour from our home which means two hours driving time each visit) I dropped him off for his chemo treatment then went to my appointment. I had missed my last appointment months ago. She suggested therapy but I just cant take the time. Anxiety is overwhelming me. I wish I had your strength. He will be in treatment of some sort for the rest of his life. I am thankful for every day I have with him and hope and pray I have the stamina to continue caring for him. You and your family are always in my prayers. ❤❤🙏🙏❤❤

You can’t take care of anyone else if you don’t take care of yourself. You do the best you can. You’re not there to be perfect. You’re not there to do everything by yourself. Gift people with allowing them to help. By allowing them to give to you and to your wife, is a gift to them. Giving makes people feel better. They have something they can Do to help. Helping another helps them. Don’t play “kick me” about not shouldering everything yourself. I’d like to say to anyone needing therapy (and who doesn’t?). A therapist is a product. You need to try them out and see if the fit is good, as you would with any product. It’s ok to pass on someone you don’t seem to mesh with. Just wanted to pass along that advice that someone gave me once. 😊 God Bless and Thank you for this informative video. Yes, take good care of yourself Physically, Mentally, and Spiritually!! ❤❤❤😊❤❤❤

Kyle glad you did this one. We tend to pile things on our plate and have this superman mentality when others around us depend on us. I found being reactive to change, pressure from treatment and stages bottled with every day deadlines and kids eventually shut me down physically. I hope anyone seeing this takes the steps to find a sounding board and take time to clear their minds. It does make a difference when you find the person you can relate too. Sometimes that connection or approach fails. It's just a person, so find one that does. Don't write the experience off because it didn't work. For me, yard maintenance and projects gives me peace and satisfaction. I've got 2400 sq ft to manicure, control drainage and edging. Having a fruit and veg garden is another even with limited space. I can reflect on life and see my efforts which feels rewarding. Clearing my mind collecting from the garden in the morning or evening before cooking relieves stress and helps me regroup. You Got This and Jenny is so worth cherishing. 💙

And my blood pressure as well. You have an easy going 'style' and a great non judgemental 'message' for anyone struggling with emotional/mental health. Kyle, Your so right about it all. When my Husband ( who could out last a 30 year old ) was diagnosed with Glioblastoma in 2017 I became a caregiver. He took care of everything before. It was very hard. What gave me strength was a cancer support group at a local church and a online support group for people with his type of cancer (brain ) It is very important for a caregiver to take care of themselves . My husband has stage 4 prostate cancer and with other life challenges thrown at us, one starts to feel as though you're just waiting for another shoe to drop. Kyle....thank you for the great video. I'm caring for my husband who is battling pancreatic cancer. It's been over 4 years now since diagnosis. While I am grateful that he is still in the fight ( doctors gave him 3 months ) It has been a long and painful journey. To see someone you love enduring so much pain and fear of the known.....is tough. I personally turn to the Lord for the strength to keep going however.....it's still hard. One thing that finally clicked for me was...... that I had to grieve and accept the fact that our lives were not going to ever be the same as BEFORE diagnosis. How drastic a person's life can change from one day to the next. No one is ever prepared to hear the word " cancer". Just want to thank you and your beautiful family for sharing your journey. I'm sure you are touching MANY lives and I am one of them. Praying for your family may God bless you every step of the way. 🙏❤️

Great to see a man discussing mental health care. My bit of advice to get someone to consider seeking help is to say use, Airplane instructions if plane going down you are told put your own oxygen mask on first you can't help someone else if you have no oxygen yourself it gives a different perspective on need to seek help. USA has lots of issues with insurance and Healthcare but much easier, quicker and more choice getting therapy compared to UK system.

I applaud the steps you are taking to better yourself as a person, a husband, a dad, and as a caregiver. For years I had a post-it on my work computer monitor that said "TAKE CARE OF YOU". I found it so helpful because everytime I saw it I would check in with myself. It sounds weird but it works! Hang in there my friend. Hi Kyle, Something that occurred to me following you and Jenny is how hard being a caregiver is. You have to be positive, always "up", etc which of course is important, but it's also really hard. I'm a huge supporter of therapy and it's great that you're so open-minded. I still think there is still a stigma in the US regarding mental health, which you acknowledge is detrimental to physical health as well. I'm so sorry someone your age is dealing with this major life upheaval. However, you are doing an amazing job of it. Sending my very best :)

Excellent advice Kyle!! I am caring for my spouse that has dementia. I should find a therapist down the road to help me cope. We get out every morning hiking with our dog which is great but I need to carve out some “me” time- caregivers give so much of their time for others but too worried to get out (alone if possible). I need to look into listening to podcasts- never have before. I love watching KZitem videos (including yours & Jenny’s). Happy belated birthday. Have a great week- can’t believe it’s almost Feb.

Thank you for sharing with us Kyle. My stepdad who I loved passed away from cancer when I was 18 but when he was facing it all, my sister in law and I were his main caregivers. I never took care of my mental health so my already there anxiety from childhood trauma grew bigger and now at 39 I still struggle with bad anxiety. My husband has a chronic illness so I’ve always taken care of him and sometimes I forget about myself and then my anxiety gets bad again. Excellent Video. Back in 2006. I was also a caregiver to my husband who had cancer. We were at the City of Hope in Duarte CA. I have never fully recovered from the anxiety I experienced. Looking back, I should have sought out therapy. One day I was in the waiting room as he was receiving whole brain radiation and a woman came up to me and put her hand on my shoulder and said "please remember to take care of yourself" I didn't feel that I deserved to as I was not the one who was sick, but I should have listened to that advice. When he went into remission, his mom talked him into not being married anymore so we are no longer together. More Importantly it's been 17 years (we were your age at the time) and the City of Hope gave him his life back and it was honor to see someone through that journey. The two of you are so amazing in the grace you have shown throughout everything.

I totally agree with you about fresh air and exercise….when I was going through cancer treatment I made it a point no matter how I felt to get out and walk every day..sometimes I even walked twice a day…..if I was to fatigued I would go outside and sit in the sun…always good for my mental health..👍❤️🤗

You said so many things I know but find hard to do myself. I am my husband's caregiver who suffers with dementia and is currently having other health issues. I keep telling myself just about everything you suggested but have yet to do any of it. Your video helped me see the importance of mental health and plan on getting busy taking care of me too. Thank you so much for sharing your journey. Keeping all of your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for the video, it’s very helpful. My husbands treatment has ended he is ok at the moment but his cancer has a very high reoccurrence rate and my anxiety has come now from not doing anything.. just waiting for the next shoe to drop and that is not healthy.

The thing I love most besides your teaching as the best teacher I had in math and English is, the way you sacrifice your time out of class to just have one on one talks on what I struggled or anybody struggled. Whenever I had a bad day or when I feel not at my best you comforted me you helped me through so much whether if it’s being stuck in math equation or an English word or story or just how I feel. I am proud of you Mr.Appleford and even though it’s hard in life right now I know there will be miracles so don’t be discouraged.❤️and most importantly, if society tells males to suck it up when they’re not feeling at their best or if they’re struggling emotionally then that’s toxic masculinity. Males are allowed to express how they feel just like females do. And most of all, don’t forget to give all that love to yourself too. You’ve accomplished a lot Mr. Appleford and that’s no lie. Even though I’ve graduated from our high school (SGHS) 6 years ago I’ve been doing amazing things for my mental health whether it’s me working out for an hour each day to listen to music or cooking or doing chores or giving time to myself. You’ve inspired me to make a KZitem video and impacted my life for the better and I can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done for me as a teacher.❤️🫶🏼

It's a joy to see such a beautiful family live life. I know that sounds weird but it's true, watching the sweet kiddos grow and learn under you and Jennys care is a gift. I do pray Jenny is healed with NED and not have any other treatment. I pray for your level head and balanced judgement to go forward leading your fam bam. Thank you and bless you all. 🤗

I’m a care giver to my dad in London. Some days, it can be overwhelming…..I’m here with my note book and pen, taking notes. Thank you Kyle. A good relationship with our Creator and relying on him is a must isn’t it. King David wrote in Psalm 55:22 ‘Throw your burden on Jehovah, and he will sustain you’ Continue to pray for guidance and strength. You are doing all the right things Kyle. 🙏

Thank you Kyle for speaking on this subject, being a caregiver for my husband for many years before he passed way, four years ago, people did not even think about what it meant to be a caregiver, the focus was always on the patient not what the caregiver was going through. We pushed through many times ,suffering alone and in silence. You have touched on so many things that a care giver has to go through. You are the voice speaking for all caregivers. I thing of you, Jenny and your family. I pray for you all. I am so glad I came across your and jenny's channel.
