It is also worth mentioning that Alicent was a mother at 15 and it seems like Viserys was absent in the lives of the kids through her line

Omg you're so right; totally forgot that. I love Viserys but he was a shitty father at times, especially to Alicent's children.

I think she had Aegon at 14. It also doesn’t help that she has no mother of her own, and her only parent is a manipulative weirdo. She’s alone in this, with shone additional help from Criston. She’s really trying her best

Viserys was a shitty father to all of his children but Rhaenyra, and even with her he was shitty for not teaching her how to rule

@@aster8746 She has an army of helpers and Viserys was already disintegrating when he married Alicent. She just views her kids like her father saw her.

@@aster8746 Facts. All things considered, Alicent got a bit better later on, Aemond was a solid kid till the eye situation, but of course, most would be forever changed after such an event so it's understandable.

Both Rhaenyra and Alicent are flawed parents. Alicent is a lot more intense when perhaps she needs to show her softer side a bit more and is far too critical of her children, especially Aegon(who was desperate for her approval) while Rhaenyra coddles and too overprotective, allowing Aemond and Daeron to get ahead of them

I love that the show is centered around parentage and children. The birthing scenes were very interesting. Some people were disgusted by them, but it made me feel more empathy for Rhaenyra. Alicent had no birthing scenes which is a little strange, Rhaenyra had two. Another aspect about this in the show is Larys monologue about having children as an attempt to cheat death. He puts down parents while perceiving himself as above everyone. That speech he made had me feeling disgusted, and I think the authors intended that. All of the suffering that parents go through for their children is supposed to be worth it.

It's interesting, maybe the fact Alicent was super young when she had Aegon II and Helaena was something they wanted to avoid, perhaps? That's my best guess

i have been waiting for someone to cover this for so long! the comparisons in motherhood drawn from alicent to rhaenyra were so interesting and much needed in the show, honestly just that made me like it more than the book by a long shot. And i cannot stress enough the importance of the depiction of a more 'realistic' birth that would have taken place in this time period rather than the squeaky clean birth scenes Hollywood likes to churn out, and i can't believe people had the gall to criticize them. excellent video and breakdown and ouch! i cringed at the vinegar bit tbh

Thank you. I also I thought it was a key element to the story - and will be in the upcoming seasons. I'm surprised not many people are talking about it ahah

Crazy how people didn't have a problem watching men pulverize each other but are disturbed by watching women give life 🤦🏽♀️. Ps. Those remedies sound a bit painful. I wonder if they actually helped? Vinegar down there after birth 👀😩

Its interesting that the show features birthing scenes for Rhaenera, her mother, and Lena but not Alicent. Perhaps they didn't want the "Young Alicent" actress to film that uncomfortable subject matter BUT it is an important omission to consider. Rhaenera was able to have children at an older age and within loving, consensual relationships (Harwin & Daemon) where as Alicent was made to bear children for a much older man who did not care for them (or her) as he should have.

No!!! Targaryens have dragon blood. Still-births are not from inbreeding. How do you get scales from inbreeding???

Yasss!!! Still-births are from inbreeding, and, because of the Targaryen dragon blood, some are born like Visenya in HotD. Perhaps I should've mentioned that as well.
