No matter how sophisticated the equipment and calibration software you use, verification of picture quality is a must. This is done by looking at the actual content, not only test patterns. I prefer to check skin tones which we all know how they should look.
In this example I've calibrated a Hisense 2023 LED LCD TV, model E7KQ Pro with 144 Hz VA panel. Many picture controls didn't work correctly and even by going to the limits of the range for a particular control, not only could I not reach the targets, but the picture got significant banding which is clearly visible on the skin tones.
