You can still cast your commander through knowledge pool lock, as knowledge pool only works for spells from the hand and not the command zone or other zones

Sasuke kuniski you are incorrect. Knowledge Pool’s card text clearly states that its cast trigger only triggers when a spell is cast from a player’s hand. Therefore, you can cast from the command zone or from the graveyard (a la Flashback or Jump-Start) with no problems. (Edit to add: casting from the top of the library is also breaks the Teferi-Pool lock) I mean, it’s printed right on it. Simply looking it up on Gatherer would have informed you.

This was me! I don't remember what I had in my hand at the end there but it probably wasn't anything particularly exciting or I'd have cast it. Likely just a bunch of the giant fatties that deck is filled with. Also, as everyone else has said you could have just cast aurelia, because it only affects cards cast from your had, and the homeward path was in your hand the whole time as well.

Hey that's awesome that you found this video. Its always interesting to see the other perspective. It was weird that this video really took off like a year after I posted it and will forever live as the Aurelia / Homeward path game. Anyway, it was still a fun game, I had that feeling like I wasn't supposed to win that one. And looking from your perspective I imagine that you were feeling pretty good once you established the lock. Thanks for commenting!

Ha! This reminds me of a time I was playing Kalemne, and one of my opponents had Teferi and a Possibility Storm, so same lockout principle. Since Possibility Storm (and Knowledge Pool) only exiles spells you cast from your hand, I could recast my commander from the command zone and still get Experience Points for casting my big creatures. Once my opponent realized I wasn't going to stop, he conceded.

Lol nice. It feels good to be able to fight through a lock like that. I think I forgot that I would be able to successfully cast Aurelia in the above game, but was still able to get there.

What is on the stack stopping you from playing a card? Doesn't the ability have to resolve for you to play a card in the first place? Once the final ability resolve, then play a card?
@CommanderReplay

The knowledge pool cast occurs while the original spell is still on the stack. It’s a well know lock that used to show up much more 5+ years ago.

Uhhh.. Okay, for one, Knowledge Pool only effects cards cast from your hand, therefore, you can still cast your commander. And second, Homeward Path? I'm watching you guys get wrecked by YOUR Avacyn, and all you had to do was play Homeward Path and tap it. You made this game out to be so much more difficult than it actually was. Punt-central.

I had a game where I was playing as Taigam and had blatent theivery in rebound from the previous turn. Dude thought he was clever dropping Teferi and Knowledge pool all in one shot. "Ill just steal all of your spells from rebound!" "Read the trigger again..." "...scoop" "What, maybe I wont realize that I can steal Teferi and lock YOU out instead."

I was able to beat Teferi Knowledge Pool once. I had Meren on the field and a Reclamation Sage in the grave. So i was able to destroy it . Quicksilver amulet / Belbe's was the all star right here. I dont run them nearly as much any more, but this goes to show that there are times where putting something directly into play is so much better than casting when effects like these start running around and/or just plain old counterspells. Fun game.

@@CommanderReplay That is a really good idea, though a touch specific. Maybe it would fit better in a deck that can either draw alot, or dig though there deck? Something like verina, where drawing a dead card isn't a big deal. alternatively, if you're flying with the same group of people consistently, and one of them has a very strong activated ability, it might be worth it. Though since I haven't seen much of golos, since I play mostly in paper, he might be a lot bigger of a problem that I'm giving credit for.

@CommanderReplay
7 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah she is my favorite for sure. Ive always like the creature combat portion of the game, so having 2 combats is twice as a good as one. Being such a broad ability theres a lot of different ways to build around Aurelia voltron, token, tribal, good stuff and Boros also has some interesting lock out elements. They've also been printing new cards that play well with Aurelia, Combat celebrant and bishop of rebirth. So lots of different deck ideas I hope to explore in the future.

That deck is sweet, I still haven't unboxed mine since I haven't had a lot of time to get to the shop recently, but I have seen it in action. Its a powerful deck That plays really aggressive which is great if you like attacking, but at the cost of people perceiving you as the threat. Have you made any upgrades to the deck, or are you playing it as is? Also what sort of situations seem to be causing trouble? Is it a lot of board wipes, or non interactive combo, or someone just going bigger than you?

Commander Replay its mostly just someone more experienced with a few hundred more dollars invested. He tears me up with rashmi and tishana. Maybe you can do a video of a deck tech. I put olivia in in and a gifted aetherborn. Im just not to savy on the spells and mana upgrades i should make. Every youtuber skips the mana upgrades because its kinda boring...
@CommanderReplay
7 жыл бұрын
Ive been meaning to do that video actually! I have most of the script written. Ill see if I can get that recorded this weekend, no promises though. The deck comes with a lot of tap lands. But I personally like the Mirage Fetchlands, and that way if you spent I don't know like $30-40 on ravnica and AKH and BFZ duals without having to spend a hundred dollars on fetch lands but still find your expensive lands consistently. Money is helpful, but you can still build a strong deck without spending much. I know theres videos about there upgrades and budgets upgrades so search up some of those. I personally would say add some of the white board wipes, day of judgement, fumigate, descended upon the sinful those will help with Tishana. I haven't seen your buddys Rashmi deck, but in my experience they only really get going when they have Minds Dilation. So in that case Return to Dust/Vindicate/Utter End/ Anguished Unamking. But sometimes instead of trying to stop what they are doing its just easier to kill them outright, stuff like world at war or mirror entity can make your attacks lethal. Also just casting Myojin of Nights Reach can tilt a game in your favor pretty quickly against those decks.

there is only a small group of us friends where I live who actually play Magic, and if anyone runs a lockout combo, they pretty much get shunned until they stop playing that deck. I had one guy run the Teferi/Pool lock in a command game. I didn't play against him again for like two months.
@CommanderReplay

That is one way to do it! Yeah I don't have any love for those type of combo decks either. Its not too bad if that person has other less powerful decks that they can use. There is someone in my local meta that only plays real powered up decks so that's not so much fun either. But the other half of me is tempted to build something good enough to be the combo deck.

Thanks for stopping by. Last year when Wotc released the 1v1 commander format online, they decided that there should only be 1 ban list, which was the 1v1 (not duel commander) banlist. This meant that almost all of the really nasty stuff from commander was banned. There was a huge uproar in the community, and rightfully so, 2 months later wotc switched to 2 separate ban lists. So for a period of you could play with recurring, primeval, sylvan primordial etc.... I did a video on it. Check out Sidisi Banned Card tribal if you like :) kzitem.info/news/bejne/242e16OIa1-Fhqw
