The Inca Trail and visiting Machu Picchu were the main reasons we visited Peru.
I couldn't wait to hit the Inca trails that lead to the citadel of Machu Picchu. For this trip it is mandatory to use an agency to organize everything. Only an agency licensed by the Peruvian government is allowed to operate such tours. The number of tourists and porters crossing it per day is also limited. The agency was elected already at the beginning of 2022 on a general basis. They had a good site and were quick to respond to our emails. Those are the technical details.
The challenge of the route, at least for me, was the high altitude. The total length we covered in 4 days was about 42 km and the highest point was 4200 m. There is constant ascent and descent, but the views we had the pleasure of witnessing took our breath away, not just the altitude. 😊
The first day was the hardest for me. Not because the route was difficult, but because I hadn't rested and got used to the altitude. My legs weighed like lead and every step was very difficult. But these tours are very well organized and well thought out and at the right time you have the opportunity to stop for a short break or lunch or to see an archaeological site left by the Incas. This is another interesting thing about the Inca Trail, you have the opportunity to visit several sites that are difficult to access and are mostly visited by people who have taken the Inca Trail.
The first and second day melted away quickly. They loaded us with wonderful emotions and filled us with beautiful sights. Not to mention the food… I really didn't expect it to be so varied, plentiful and delicious. However, cook Adriel prepared her in field conditions and all the products for her were carried on his back. Each carrier has 20 kg. During those days, we were accompanied by two extremely smiling Argentines - Pilar and Valentin, who spoke to our guide Rosbel in English especially for us. With such tours, there is always a risk of what kind of people you will come across. Miro and I are fortunately always lucky to meet cool people. It was interesting, difficult, but also fun.
The story and the video got long, there will be a sequel...
Don't miss the next video from the Inca Trail. Soon!
I'm Laura. Have a nice trip! 😊
