I'm impressed with your ingenuity. At first I thought it was like a mini version of a washtub bass but it actually sounds like a fretless one-string banjo. The spam can even gives a little bit of a resonator (spaminator?) effect. Between finding a banjo in your attic and making one from parts, you really were destined to play the banjo!

That is the single greatest, most impressive, incredibly awesome homemade instrument of any kind I have ever seen!!! At first I laughed because I thought it was just a funny little thing you made that didn't actually function. But then you played it and for what it is, it actually doesn't sound terrible! That's just freaking cool! 🙂💙

The Banjo is the only American musical instrument, and back in the day most were homemade. There were no specifications, rules, or requirements for one, and they were very unique unto themselves. I really like yours, and as everyone can plainly see, it works, it sounds like a banjo, and you do lay it quiet well. Looking to a full concert with that one Phoebe. 😀

Actually, quite an interesting instrument - good for you! I believe that for a banjo or banjo adjacent instrument, the sentence "it's hard to play without muting it" is a plus rather than a minus... at least... most of the time! 😊

SPAM. It’s not just for breakfast anymore. There is a Spam with Bacon on the shelves these days and I think it’s better than the old, standard Spam. With that yardstick you can measure progress as you learn Spam Jams. I was surprised at how good the intonation appears to be and the glued on truss rod is a genius addition. It’s good to see you feel better. You have a great channel. I spread the word about your channel by word of mouth whenever I can. Have a great weekend.

You made a diddley bow! There's a long history in rural America (especially the Mississippi Delta and Appalachia) of cobbling together crude musical instruments from junk. Gourd banjos, cigar box guitars, washtub basses, and diddley bows are some examples. Lots of early delta blues players started out playing a diddley bow, usually fretless and played with a homemade bottleneck or bone slide. That's where the legendary Bo Diddley (who pretty much invented rock and roll) got his stage name.

Well I'm a history nut and live in the mountains of east Tennessee ( originally N.C. ). Love the banjo for its rich history ( and sound! ) Do a little research on these things. So now we have pizza, sushi and banjos! Just saying....😃

love it, love everything about it, I've built a couple Spamjo's as well except I used a broom handle for the neck, much more solid but you gotta play it fretless. if you go with a higher gauge string you can get a lot of riffs out of 1 string, I got a 50 on mine and get about 30 riffs from it. you can even do Castle of Glass by Linkin Park on it

I think it's beautiful! Building from absolute junk goes with the whole delta blues approach. Use what you got! I'm curious--can you describe the fretting you're using? I'm asking, because I have enough fret wire for maybe 8 frets, perhaps 10. I thought of fretting like a dulcimer. How is your fretted?
