I can sort of understand that, and I'm a lead alto player. The sort of context with the backing track to solo over right there is kind of confusing, so he just did some sax sheds which was alright. I feel like his first have was super groovy jumping all around the horn, then I fell it kind of got boring. I wouldve probably have given the section a little more room to breathe and put more thought into my solo, but I still like his first half

I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for, but I think if you search up "big band jazz" or "big band modal jazz" or "big band bebop jazz" you might find something you like

According to a friend I have who was on that gig (believe me or not) Louis was drinking straight vodka that night - hence his erratic/unlike him actions, and lack of accuracy as compared to the studio videos.
