hes half right. the art aikido was derived from was a samurai art. the creator of aikido was a REAL warrior and on returning from war, was so sickened by the actual violence he witnessed, developed it as an art for self cultivation. It was never intended for "fighting", martial arts were just his framework as that was his background. its more about meditation, breathing, cold showers and physical self discipline. basically he was the wim hoff of his day.

Terry Tussey built custom 1911's for Segal. He told me a story of a time that Segal was doing a rehearsal on a movie set that the actors were horseback. Apparently, one of the young cowboys was goofing around, rode by Segal and knocked his hat off. In return, Segal rode out, rode back at speed and grabbed the hat from the ground amazing them all. According to Tussey, Segal is the real deal.

If you don't go with the motion of the throw, your elbow or your wrist would break. If the throws are done too fast or with violent intent, then you will break your sparring partner, possibly crippling them, which is clearly not the goal of training. All these comments made by people who don't know shit about the art. Go on into the nearest Aikido dojo and challenge the sensei. Make sure you get some video footage of your ass getting kicked so we can all laugh about it here on KZitem.

Budo Jujitsu was the swordless form of the Samurai. Aikido was a variation which focused on 'spiritual' development as much (if not more) than combat. Aikido didn't surface until early 1900's (without googling to check), the Grandmaster was Morihei Ueshiba who died early somewhere around 1930, I think. Partner compliance is key in all Aikido demonstrations, such as the one with Seagull here.

He died in 1969 Aikido was officially founded in 1928 but developed earlier it's parent art is Daito Ryu Aikijuijitsu the most brutal joint locking and breaking of all jiujitsu systems. Great grandmaster Takeda taught Ueshiba who was a master of Sumo Combat Samurai jiujitsu Shinto Takagi Yoshen Ryu I believe one of the oldest Samurai arts and Kenjutsu sword fighting. Takedas system was his families system begun in 900 ad when the patriarch Takeda would dissect samurai victims from the battlefield and studied how the joints move the system of joint locking and destroying joints was created from this study. There's nothing more painful than a wrist lock and turning the opponent arm in a direction it can't go that's why they fly through the air. I studied a variety of systems and in Ninjitsu you see a ton of Aikido and Aikijuijitsu. Aikido is large flowing circles allowing for a toss and throw that won't hurt the other guy but stun him and force him to rethink his aggression Aikijuijitsu is small circles ....tearing the arm out of the shoulder socket or snapping an elbow joint or breaking a wrist. It's apparent Joe Rogan didn't bother to read or research Seagals or the systems he's mastered

@@peterbartolomeo5542He would be surprised at how brutal Aikido gets. I low-key like how Aikido is underestimated... It is not until a well seasoned practitioner utilizes it to custom modern fighting, that stuns the opponent and just submit them for control and suggestive movement their biology can not contradict on a platter, that's when they are surprised at the immense power of control. I don't know much, I'm self taught. Specialty is arm control... I can pause/control opponents movement, and test pain threshold with just that ability... Adding, a pre-evasion to it means the other guy will most likely be in serious trouble if not quick thinking and moving... Opponents who understand the power of aikido are extremely quick and are very cautious, lols... So they end up making weird movements like the practitioner...
@cyborgchicken3502

@@eyooffiong I'm sure it's very brutal but let's face it, the reality today is that Aikido is trained in such a way where it has lost its combat effectiveness, because there is absolutely no pressure testing in sparring and all techniques are performed on willing and compliant opponents...then it has also been infiltrated by complete frauds who promote "no touch jutsu" or "death touch" which supposedly utilizes ones Ki and literally all the endless challenge fights showing MMA fighters, jujitsu specialists, judoka, boxers, kickboxers and muay Thai fighters beating the living snot out of these people is proof that a lot of it is total nonsense.... You can live in disillusion all you want, but what you and many Aikido advocates forget is that despite being a martial arts experts who trained in multiple disciplines, Ueshiba Sensei ended up becoming a staunch pacifist in his later due to the destruction of WW2 and the heinous war crimes committed by Japan and thus he began to push aikido into that direction as well, intending for it to not be used for any sort of violence whatsoever.... Maybe in its early days it was probably highly effective, but the reality today is that is has absolutely lost that effectiveness due to being watered down by both it's original founder in his later years and even today by current practitioners.... You're better off rather learning actual Aikijujitsu, Hapkido, Judo, Jujitsu, Chinese Shuai Jiao wrestling or any other style of grappling and wrestling
