I’m definitely interested to see how things add up price to performance for someone to do an upgrade (motherboard, ram, and CPU) to ryzen 7000 vs 13th Gen. Out of the gate these things seem like little rippers - and the fact that they technically still support DDR4 (if I’m remembering right) is appealing to me entirely on the basis of spreading upgrade costs out over time.

I've just ordered an i5-13600KF build with 32 GB of DDR4 3600 memory and an ASUS Strix Z690 motherboard for my RTX 3080 as an upgrade from my current almost 10 year-old i7-4770K with 16 GB of DDR3 1600 memory. This is for 1440p gaming on a 27" G-SYNC display with games runing at maxed out settings with RT and DLSS, where available. As such, I'm a bit out of touch with what constitutes a CPU core these days because the i5-13600KF has 14 cores, right, split between 6 performance and 8 efficiency cores as I understand it with the former offering 2 threads per core and the latter a single thread per core for a total of 20 threads. So why is this considered a 6 core CPU in the review? What do the 8 efficiency cores do if they are not considered to be CPU cores? I looked at the i7-13700KF but for gaming at 1440p the i5-13600KF seemed to offer the best value for money by far, especially for the RTX 3080. I certainly will not be buying a 4090 or 4080, the latter of which costs £1,269 for the Founders Edition here in the UK with third-party models costing even more! For comparison, my RTX 3080 cost me 'just' (lol) £749 so the 4080 is almost double the price generation-on-generation which, in my opinion, is utterly absurd and not a pricing model I endorse or support personally.

Good video, i'm building a pc with the 13600k and pair it with the Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX you reviewed. I think going with the midrange stuff is a good option as this CPU offers good value and performance. Sure it's not the fastest CPU, but building a midrange pc with components costs a lot less then it doesn't really matter about LGA socket cycle. I mean they all ready talking about M.2 PCie 5.0 SSD's with massive heat sinks, and only a few high end Z790 expensive boards that support them so even if they did go another cycle on the socket some of the features on the board will be out dated anyway with the next generation of M.2 PCie SSD's. And right now M.2 PCie 4.0 SSD's 1TB are a good bargain and fit most of the midrange boards like the Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX you reviewed.

If you look at it as a 6core performance (PLAY THE GAME) CPU + an (on-chip but separate) 8core efficiency (background tasks music, email, utube, updates etc etc) handling CPU then it all makes perfect sense. Not sure how Intel are marketing this chip but it makes so much sense for a modern gamer+. Oh and power consumption is not crazy in fact it's way lower than expected - on the other hand 13900 is CRAZY and given it's idle (which we know they never really are) draw is pretty much the peak draw of this processor is crazier still.

Thanks for the video. Quite interested in the 13600. I'm currently running a bclk overclocked 12100f on the ASUS b660g mobo, runs at 5ghz. Waiting to see if the non K skus are bclk overclockable in 13th gen

i have an i5-13600kf and i just bought a ASRock Z690 STEEL LEGEND WIFI 6E/D5 LGA 1700 Intel Z690 SATA 6Gb/s ATX Intel Motherboard so does it matter this is a z690 and not z790? am i losing out on performance or any real difference?

I still have a Sand bridge system and looking to upgrade! its about time for me. What would you Advice? AMD or Intel. I'm changing everything but looking to build within an ITX case. Already got 750W SFX Corsair power supply, so I need to balance CPU selection to not overdue it.

Depends on what you need out of the system but a 13600k or hold out to see what the 3d vcache cpu(s) from AMD are like as those should be solid gaming and general use options for years to come, and a little power tuning on both them and the gpu could keep you under 750 watts and make cooling easier in an itx build.

Tbf re: platform longetivity, I like to start with the first gen CPUs and then end with a used chip from the final generation, so the same AM5 board will last me 10 years easily. 🤷🏿♂️ Only reason I'm not sticking with AM4 is that I wanna go ITX anyway.

I bought a 4090 and a I5 13600k mainly for 4k gaming but also some 1440p high fps, I feel like I could've used the extra cores on the i7 for future proofing, any thoughts?

@@alvarobrufalgarcia86 I am probably going to get a 13600kf myself to replace my 9900kf, its an awesome cpu for the price without the insane power draw of the 13900k.
@alvarobrufalgarcia86
Жыл бұрын
@@shadowprice8100 that is exactly what I thought, but i also though I could use a little extra power and cores for future proofing as this gen will be the last with the socket before I gotta get a motherboard. Thats why I strongly considered something better, just so it'll last a bit longer!
@shadowprice8100
Жыл бұрын
@@alvarobrufalgarcia86 Well i thought that too when i got my 9900kf years ago and i have watched many 6 cores easily surpass it in productivity and gaming... and with amd and intel constantly trading blows who knows if ill be amd or intel next time i upgrade? So it best to go the best value this time and then go best value again in the future besides, a 4090 can do 4k 120hz gaming! Thats going to work for a really long time!

I just upgraded from a ryzen 1700 to a 5600, and even if I appreciate the change, it's more because I wanted to offer myself a gift, and because I got it for a nice price, but I could have kept on with the 1700 for 3-4 more years without a sweat. The games that are that cpu intensive to require a change are not interesting games anyway, and although I want to play a lot with emulators, I am not willing to put that much money into ryzen 7000 for a computer that already ran really great with a 1700 and a vega 64 for 1440p high quality 60-120fps Just to say that indeed, people don't upgrade that often and don't need to, and even if the fact that a platform is dead is true, it doesn't stop it from working.

Hello, I've ordered the 13700kf and its on its way but I'm having second thought. ' I have a TUF 4090 I ordered a Strix Gaming Z790-F My Aio is Is a Ryujin 360 with A12x25 fans, My PSU is a Seasonic Prime TX1000 Titanium Will it be fine regarding temps and watts you think, i've seen videos about the 13900kf the power consumption and how to reduce it. I'm quite freaking easily about temps and even if the 13700kf won't be as warm as the I9 (I hope so?), i'm still a bit worried about it..
@vMaxHeadroom
Жыл бұрын
the 13700KF will be more than fine with temps well under control with a 360mm AIO and the 1000w PSU will handle both the 13700K and 4090. I have the 12700K overclocked to an all core 5.1GHz and no issues on temps with my 360mm AIO. On gaming the temps will never go above 70 degrees anyway and more likely in the 50 degrees area. The 13900K does run hot as it is pushed to the limit but the 13600K and 13700K will be more than fine with that AIO...Just enjoy the 13700K matched to an RTX 4090....And the 4090 is something I can only dream about!!!!!!!

thank you for the review, it looks like 13600K is a good CPU however Socket 1700 is the Dead End and there is no point buying 13gen when you can get Ryzen 7000 now and upgrade it later to Zen 5/6 also 7800X3D is coming in 2 months and will destroy any 13gen CPUs

Does the "6 core" chip matter when it out performs its competitors from this gen and also out performs even the last gens best chips? Guess that only matters if the competition is "How many cores does it have". Otherwise the p core e core design does exactly what it's supposed to. For 300 bucks which you can get it for on sale right now, it's the best chip for its price range. It outperforms the last gens most expensive chips and it's only like a 3% downgrade from the i7 pretty much making the i7 obsolete. If you really want a workstation bump with more cores then mght as well go for the I9 at that point. Im building another pc for the first time in like 7 years and i was ready to pull the trigger on an i7 11700k for 264 expecting 13th gen to be crazy pricey. For 36 dollars more the upgrade between those 2 is crazy. Glad I waited
