@glenchapman3899

Yes... don't forget the brave, nameless fire marshals who VOLUNTEERED To grab a fire extinguisher and run TOWARD a dangerous burning wreck. That could also have electrocuted him... If Mr Marshall is not there, the doctor does not get close and maybe Romain can't get out... Mr Marshall 1 and 2 are also HUGE heroes who do a dangerous job ONLY for the love of F1...

When I saw the flames, it literally took me solid two seconds to realize what had just happened It just seemed so unreal, because I remember Niki Lauda saying that with modern cars in his accident at the Nurbürgring, the car wouldn't have burst into flames, so I thought such an event was just impossible. Well, now I know better, but thankfully Romain did not suffer the same scars as Niki.

I immediately thought that what he hit had blown up and thought, 'why tf is something so flammable right next to the track??'. Then I realized it was the car itself that caught fire and I was so terrified. Was so so happy to see him sitting in the medical car and okay.

I was so relieved to hear that he got out of the car and was okay. While I agree, Romain's shunt today just hit different. I watched today's race late, and o already knew he survived with minor injuries, and I was watching Newman's wreck live. Today's shunt still felt worse, looked scarier even. Both wrecks though show how far safety has come in both NASCAR and F1 though. 5 years ago neither of them would have survived their respective crashes

Tone was perfect: still up beat and fun, but respectful of the accident. I am SO THANKFUL for all the engineers and drivers who’ve been working tirelessly for 50+ years to improve the safety of the sport, and will continue to do so. We got lucky today: more things went wrong that we didn’t have solutions to. There’s more work to be done, as there likely will always be.

That the car broke in half was a Godsend, because it dissipated some of the energy and G-force of the crash. It might have also "pushed " back Armco into the back of his helmet.
