What REALLY makes this movie so good and so fucking heartwarming is how genuine their relationship is.. They have such amazing chemistry and the acting and writing is top of the line! Such a brilliant movie.

I really like this scene. I think of it as two people who are finally together as friends. They are not boss and employed anymore . They are not together because of work. They are together because they are friends. Because both had gone through so many difficulties and somehow together they can move on. Dris needed someone who could believe in him. Phillippe needed someone who wouldn't have pity on him. Both needed to laugh. We like this movie, because we hope to get a friendship like this, or remember why our friends are the most important thing in our lives.

Out of every scene in the movie I think this one sells their friendship the most. The reason being that Phillipe made a genuine remark about Driss using the razor to slit his throat, that it would make him happy, and yet somehow in what would've been like the 15 minutes it took to shave his beard Driss bought Phillipe back to himself. That's a one in a million type of friendship there

When Philippe say:"a sharp fast cut would relieve me" it is not about death. In French, He's asking driss to shave him normally like a real man and not sugarcoat him by shaving slowly.

@@TheMinidoo no, it means slicing his throat, thats pretty obvious xD even the tone he uses to deliver that line implies that, just like Driss's response

This movie is probably the most fun foreign film I have seen in ages. I laughed out loud. The most amazing thing to me about Europe is that no one mentions Driss is black. No one cares. It's not important and I'm glad because it would distract us from the real purpose of this film. It shows that two people can be friends and it really doesn't matter where they come from, how much money they have or what colour they are. Beautiful film. Highly recommend watching this if you haven't already.

Well, they did work on the fact that Dris came from the slums and was a convicted crook, though...
@maureenwagg5305

Yes, but ultimately that didn't matter much because he was treated with respect and affection. Once the relatives got to know him, they loved him too. He was defended when others treated him badly. It had little to do with color and more to do with his economic situation.

+Maureen Wagg In France there is a convention. You can't tell to someone "black" or "you, black people". The people around will be offended, starting by the white persons. We don't have the slavery background. It exists, but in France overseas. The black people are in France since the roman empire. Since France is a crossroad in Europe (if you look at a map, it's the geographical center of western Europe), being black in France is hardly something which will be noticed. In France, what matters the most is your cultural background. I specify France because it's not the same situation in other parts in Europe. In countries where the protestant culture is important (like Germany or England), people live in community. In ex-catholic countries like France, Spain or Italy, people are melting in only one community.
@maureenwagg5305

Doney Hon It is refreshing viewpoint. Even in Canada where I'm from it is still a thing if you are a different colour. I'm not hung up on that but I did notice the difference in how American and French people act when given the same situation as this movie and the American reaction is always base and predictable. I like France. Cool country and cooler people.

i have watched this video four times now and every time i laughed at the end it was the same. it will make me laugh for years to come. the reason why this scene is so good is that they are not acting, they are really joking with each other and their sincerity proves it. it is really a perfect movie...
