Thank you for putting this video together. I wish I had this kind of explanation about 40 years ago.

Rabbi when it comes to Tanach you said 2 chapters everyday, do you mean 2 chapters, 1 from Navim and 1 Ketuvim or 2 chapters of each?

Thanks for your question. Let me clarify: One should study two chapters in order starting from Simchat Torah starting from the book of Yehoshua (Joshua) and working one's way through all of the Nevi'im and thereafter working through all the Ketuvim afterwards -- again two chapters of Ketuvim each day at that point. Let me break it down for you so you can see exactly how it works!: There are a total of 929 chapters in the entire Tanach. There are 187 chapters in the first section known as "Torah" or the "Chumash" There are 380 chapters in the Nevi'im (Prophets). There are 362 chapters in the Ketuvim (Writings). The Book of Tehillim (Psalms) contains 150 of those chapters in the Writings. So without Tehillim, we are left with 212 chapters to get through. The ideal situation is as follows: One should always complete the entire Parshah (Torah portion of the week) each week by studying the particular Aliyah of the day. In other words, the section for the first person called to the Torah on Shabbat on Sunday. The section for the second person called to the Torah on Shabbat on Monday etc. The Torah section of the Tanach is not included in the two chapters count. This is studied as a separate study and so it should be. The Book of Psalms should always be read, and it is not included in the count. Excluding that, one has 592 chapters to get through in 354 days (of Hebrew calendar). In fact, one will complete the cycle in just 296 days. One could fit in the Psalms in those days if one also wants by studying three chapters a day and then everything would work out perfectly! There are also particular ways of jumping around if one sticks to a particular direction. But don't get lost if you do! If you wish for more information, be in touch with me directly and I'll share some further ideas with you.
