I have the NP3 and Node 2i. Each around $600. NP3 wins hands down, mainly because it doesn't require the never-ending PIA updating BlueOS. My streaming go-to is Qobuz and it works perfectly with the NP3. NP3 radio is a plus, now listening a lot more to radio news. My system is Benchmark (AHB2, LA4, DAC3) and the NP3 sounds excellent whether streaming, CD, radio. Don't use USB input. Hope that info is helpful.

Am I missing something? No analog inputs, so no vinyl. For streaming at this price I think you have to consider the Bluesound Node. If IOTA where to have even 1 analog input I could consider it. Preferably they’d add that, a headphone jack, and if they wanted an out of the ballpark winner go all they way to Roon ready. As is comes up way short for me at that price. Sorry. Very disappointing no analog. This was almost the solution I was looking for.

For me, this was a solid item to learn about. I have a modest CD collection but don't always feel like putting them into the Xbox to listen to them. As I have finally figured out a hobby that I want to get back into, I'm happy to be able to pin things on a board to study up on and build towards.

I suggest looking into the Atlantic Oskar line of media storage. Might not be quite as nice as Ikea stuff, but the Atlantic Oskar 1080 is great with modular shelving, so you can change shelf configuration to hold CDs, DVD/Blu-ray, video games, small or paperback books, etc. based on how much you have. I've moved to this storage for my setup for anything that isn't vinyl.

I’ve recently started filling out my CD collection a bit due partly to the cost of vinyl. Finding decent looking storage options is difficult. You could certainly do a video just on that. Aside from storage, one trend that kinda bugs me is that so many devices have so few buttons and features beyond basic playback. Maybe I’m in the minority but I missed the calendar display of old Sony players along with all the dedicated buttons. Today’s players can do the main job but they are so basic otherwise.

Only posting this in case anyone is curious about the streaming part that you didn't get a chance to test. Of course this is completely subjective.....so this is just my opinion.... I've had the NP3 for about 7 months (pre-ordered it), the streaming is great, the internal DAC is better than what is in the SA3 and I've had zero issues using Tidal, Qobuz and Amazon. The WiiM app is a bit clunky....my only complaint. I use the CD player from time to time, but for the most part I listen to vinyl (SA3) or streaming through the NP3. My setup is the NP3, SA3 and PA3 (SA3 and NP3 each bridged into single channel mode...one does the L and one does the R). I use the SA3 as the main pre-amp and the NP3 as a component only. I really enjoy the IOTAVX setup, but Ill be honest the Bluesound Node is really intriguing and if I could justify the price, I'd pick up a Naim Atom Unity.
@thevinylattack

I have the Node and I quite like it, but I don't know if it streams any better that the NP3. The Naim is a whole different story and it's really nice.

Thanks for the solid review. Have the SA3, which I really enjoy, and will get the PA3 soon. Pulled the trigger on the node, will look at a CD player as I have a couple foot lockers full of cds. A 3 unit stack of Iota would look pretty good.

Too bad no SACD support for the player and it seems no DSD support for the dac/streamer even though it goes to 192khz Hopefully they come down with another model that include those and say 4-5 analog input for $200-300 and I'll be right on board. Can't wait to see your AXPONA debrief Cheers.

@@thevinylattack I can confirm that the NP3 won’t play SACD’s. Also my unit stopped working after about 30 days with no real issues prior to it simply shutting off. The biggest problem has been IOTA support. Forget using email or chat. I had to call them at 4:30 AM EST in order to get someone on the phone. The first I was able to reach a human being, I was told a new unit would be sent out in a few days. This didn’t happen. After several days of calling and getting no response I was able to speak with the owner and I’m waiting to see if that conversation bears fruit. Considering I spent 1,500 bucks for the NP3 and 2 PA3’s - not a good experience. It did sound great before it died.

While those definitely look nice and are a certainly a better build than the Ikea stuff, part of the Gnedy's allure was that it was under 80 bucks once upon a time. I also like vertical storage than horizontal for some reason. Thanks for making me aware of these cabinets though.

I'd imagine it has to do with cost vs. desirability. I just don't know that the market is clamoring for HD radio anymore, so the added cost of including it isn't a sound return.
