Bro, you just provided me with all the information I needed. Thanks so much. I got the Ipad Air 4 with the pencil at the moment and I'm loving the versatility. I think the Magic Keyboard will take it to the next level. My work gave me a laptop to use and that forms part of my my desktop setup,, but it's always a mission to take off the laptop if I want to go do work or smaller task in a coffee shop for example. The Ipad with the keyboard will provide flexibility in that regard. I do write often though, so I am a bit nervous about taking it off the whole time, but I think it should be fine. Portability of an iPad and extra functionality with pencil support etc. makes this machine unbeatable in my opinion.

I have a small bag that carries both my iPad and MacBook. I bought a $5 folio case that works the same way as Apple’s so when I need to take notes for class I take it off the keyboard and put it into that folio case just so it has something for protection. I bring up the bag since it has pockets for everything including the extra slim case.

For easier use with the pencil or a further angled screen I remove the iPad from the stand and sit it on the line just above the trackpad. This also means I can use the device in portrait mode, for apps that don’t support landscape mode, without having to hold it.

@@jessekhachh I got the Magic Keyboard a few days ago, it’s definitely a compromised piece of kit, but, brings so much functionality and speed to using the iPad. It’s also zero problem to open with one hand - people are just moaning. You open it ‘like a magic keyboard’ instead of ‘like a laptop’. It’s like trying to pedal a motorcycle, it’s not appropriate to try and use it like a bicycle because it is a different designed thing - just open it however it works for you (it’s not hard to find a few ways). I have an issue with my iPad Pro. When I use the navigation keys (arrows) it changes focus in the same way as pressing tab would. e.g. Blue line around the ‘place holder’. I’m pretty sure (though willing to be convinced otherwise) that it is because of a setting in the ‘accessibility settings’. It interferes with copy and pasting and sometimes selecting text. It mainly happens when I’m typing and when I press cmd+tab (to shift focus in between apps) and return back it works fine. This can happen several times in one use. Really frustrating me and as I am very new to iPad Pro but am familiar to using a MacBook. I also noticed as I type there are suggestions around the bottom of the screen. I can select one if I mistype a word. I am using the M1 iPad Pro with iOS 14.6 with a Magic Keyboard (the one with the trackpad). Sorry for the long post but can you help????

I’m a writer and a photographer and work mostly from home, and most of what I do is type and edit photos. I am also a part time student. I also consume a lot of content for research, and fun. I need something light and portable that I can take from my bed to my couch, occasionally sit on my desk, and to study and read on. Could this actually replace my MacBook Air?

Looking into getting one with a new iPad Pro. I’ve had the smart folio for years (still looks new and gets used constantly). Only 2 things that bug me about the magic keyboard conceptually is the weight (I think it basically doubles the overall weight) and the lack of being able to flip it into a pure tablet mode. I have the folio all the way flipped over all the time, or at least half the time. Like when you are watching tv and just want to shove it next to you on the couch but want the screen visible, but not so bulky as in keyboard mode. So i think I’d have to take it off the keyboard a lot - then you have 2 things. Not sure how i feel about that.

Nicely reasoned. Neither gushy nor hypercritical. Needed to upgrade both my Macbook Pro (2015) and my iPad Pro (1st gen). As I also have an iMac (2019) I’ve decided to replace both Macbook Pro and iPad Pro with just a new 12.9 iPad Pro, 2nd gen Apple Pencil, and Magic Keyboard. If I didn’t have the iMac though, I’d have gone for a new Macbook Pro instead. I have too many macOS apps I use daily to go only iPadOS. As it is, I have what I consider the perfect tech trinity: iPhone, iPad Pro (with pencil & magic keyboard), and iMac. Happy Days 😀😄😀😆

I’m having issues with a Logitech Slim Combo 12.9” Smart Connector keyboard that I purchased for my 2nd Gen 12.9” iPad Pro. It’s now beginning to have intermittent issues with keystrokes not registering like the space bar, “a” etc. To get it to work again, I frequently have to do something else like use the Apple Pencil and then it will resume working or fiddle with the General -> Keyboard settings. I’m not sure if you think this generation of iPad Pro is long in the tooth now and needs to be upgraded. Seems strange for an expensive iPad? I don’t really have the need to upgrade yet. I just changed the keyboard settings to AUTOMATIC for my two keyboards: English & Italian. Hopefully that will help the issue.
