A group of men still play this on drogheda / baltry road on some sundays. My dad in the 70’s / early 80’s played this in Dublin but they played it in an industrial estate on Sundays.

Actjally strictly speaking it is not an Irish game, it's Dutch. It is still played in Holland. It was introduced to Ireland by the Williamite army in the 17th century and is very popular in my county, Armagh. We call it bullets as the original "bowls" were small bore cannon balls.

If you are to look it up it says "bowl playing originated in Cork Ireland where it was called Long bullets and was played on the straighter roads outside of houses and in villages", ah but they try to steal everything we claim to be ours. Maybe further into the 21st Century this Sport will become more popular again. Throughout history Sports have being revived (Gaelic Football and Hurling were at the very late 19th Century). Also Interesting video.

I was in Dublin airport two years ago and saw very few non white people. The main airport in Ireland. Compare that with Birmingham airport where I traveled from. There were people from all over the world there. And that is not the UK'S main airport.

Makes sense. 28 is almost 800 grammes. 16 would be too light. I play boules (the French "Petanque"). The boules are between 650 and 800 grammes. Have you played this yourself? (bowling)

I grew up in that part of Ireland near the viaduct the 16oz was for us kids the 28 was for the men and there was also a 32oz but not many could throw that, it was also said the game came about from the Irish throwing cannon balls back at the brits we didn’t have any cannon.
