Can i just say.. though its catchy, its just so surreal to think that this song is about protecting yourself from a nuke. I know its not as big a deal now, but.. just thinking about being a kid and heading to school, thinking (or not caring) about the chance of legit bombs nuking everything. Crazy times history is.

Love that the singers are some of Brad Bird's animation team as well as the deep voice is Brad Bird himself.

When I watched this as a kid, I got the idea that if I ducked and covered, just like the girl in the film within the film, I'd make a bomb come down. It never happened.

If I'm a kid in that time, I would even find it ridiculous and impractical way to protect oneself from atomic bomb blasts.

I'm pretty sure the actual 1951 "Duck and Cover" civil defense education film was in the public domain by the time this movie was made, but I guess they figured the Federal Civil Defense Administration wouldn't like the real song being used in a manner like this, so Brad Bird and the production staff cleverly came up with a fun parody of it.

I Remember emergency school drills in the 60's where us students had to line up in the hallway against the walls. Probably to keep us kids away from exploding glass and debris inside the classrooms. It was a very different world back then. Great confidence in America's heroes, military power and traditional Christian values. Boys played with guns...girls played with Barbies...adults smoked cigarettes and drove big cars...and that's what we aspired to do as well. Grow up, get a good job, get married and have kids...and play with every toy you could along the way. Very simple.
