AVAILIBILITY UPDATE: I reached out to ELECAENTA about the panel being out of stock and they said that the recent surge in demand caught them by surprise. They've apparently sent another 300 units to Amazon, but it'll be late May before they're orderable. So if you can hold-off until then, you can try and grab one. If not, report back and let us know what you ended up buying and how it's going!

Hi ReeWray. I appreciate your video presentation. Friendly suggestion: do the same test on a clear sky (clear blue sky) no cloud day, at 12:00 noon. That provides a better/fair test of what to expect from the two panels. (also, enjoyed the "unboxing" and sound effects of the cat ). Subscribed and will look for more from your channel. Happy Trails!

Yeah, I had planned to do just that, but a bad weather front moved in and I'm not likely to get a cloudless day for a while now :-/ So given the demand for a follow-up video, I decided to run with the test clips I had. I do plan to follow-up with full-sun results, but I don't expect any surprises, really, since I already know how the Jackery performs in full sun.

I live on the 49th parallel in western Washington. Over paneling is a way of life here. If you want (need) 100 Watts of power, you'd better get 250-400 Watts worth of panels. Even then, it is difficult to fully charge a Jackery E1000 on a single winter day. I've never seen a panel get anywhere near the "rated" output up here. Even on a sunny day in July and that is testing using a Victron MPPT controller into a dummy load.

Thank you for this fantastic product review!!! I bought two of these. They will offer an outstanding match with my use case, which is to charge my new VTOMAN Jump 1500 Battery. It has a max solar charge input of 200 watts which lines up perfectly with the output of the two 4-panel sets. Also I have a four MC4 port Victron charge controller on my sailboat (connected to my 2 bank agm battery bank) to which I connect another 175 watt solar panel. This means that I can actually connect both of the two new panel sets each to available MC4 ports on the Victron. I can either add to my boat’s existing battery bank charging, increasing it’s charge input considerably, or use the two new solar panel sets to keep charging my VTOMAN battery. I use that one to run other devices separately while not depleting the boat’s main battery bank. You can’t have enough power when away from dock at the island, trust me. For example we will now be able to run our icemaker, 12 volt fridge/freezer and microwave without tapping into main power!

Yeah, I'm guessing that ETFE laminate is the dimples or pebble-like surface you're referring to. I can see how it might catch dust pretty easily, especially in a windy desert environment. I've also never gotten max rated output from any of my panels..EXCEPT the Jackery 100W actually. Hello, thank you in advance for your reply, Would this work on the Pecron E1500Pro? If so, would I need 2 of the 120w or 1 - 200w? These seem like such nice panels. And thank you so much for such a wonderful interview.
@ReeWrayOutdoors
2 жыл бұрын
Sue, for the E1500 Pro I would strongly recommend 2 - 200W panels. The Elecaenta 120W would work thru the 100W input side, but it's take a long while to charge at only 100W input (couldn't fully charge it that way in just a single day). The other input on the left says it needs at least 32V - so that means you'd really want 2 - 200W panels connected in series - and that would allow you to fully re-charge in 1 full day of sun. If you want to go budget portable, 2 of the Allpowers 200W amzn.to/3COWiTG would be reasonable. If you didn't need foldable/portable, you could go with something like 2 of the Rich Solar 200W: amzn.to/3VvNf1l

I do not think that the Elecaenta panel comes with an 8mm plug. If so what what the solution to connect them together and how much extra cost was that ?
@ReeWrayOutdoors
Жыл бұрын
The "8mm" connector usually refers to the DC7909, unless you have one of the newer Jackery Pro models which use the slightly larger DC8020 connector. But in either case, the Elecaenta 120W should have you covered for both of those sizes, since the 3 way cable has the DC8020 and the adapter tips include a DC7909. And as far as connecting them together, what you need will depend on what you're connecting to on the power station end. You could connect them in series using just the MC4 adapter cable that they come with, and then you'd only need an MC4 to whatever you're power station uses. Or you could use MC4 parallel branch adapters instead (but you'd have to buy those obviously). And keep in mind that whether you go with series or parallel will mostly depend on the specs of what you're connecting to. If that device doesn't support at least 36V DC input, you'll want to go with a parallel connection. In either case, you're probably under $20 for an adapter cable, but you'd probably only need one if you have to go with a parallel conneciton. I hope that helps.

You definitely can. You'd need an appropriate parallel adaptor like this: amzn.to/3azZ7g8 Also, keep in mind that when connecting panels in parallel, you want the output specs (volts and amps) of the panels to be approximately the same. That said, the output differences between these 2 panels are not substantial and shouldn't pose a problem - but be aware that the performance of the higher-spec'd panel will likely be 'dumbed-down' to that of the lower spec'd panel.

I'm new to solar. I do gold prospecting in the desert. I want to be able to run my 12volt drywasher on a 12 volt battery. At the same time it's running use a solar panel to charge the battery (while it's running) how could I set this up solar panel up to do this, is it possible?
@ReeWrayOutdoors

Absolutely possible. You just need a charge controller between the solar panel and the battery to charge your battery safely. You might want to add a fuse between the battery and the dry washer, depending on how your dry washer connects.

I have a generator but would a jackery battery bank run a refrigerator during an outage? Also does it have passthrough charging?
@ReeWrayOutdoors

Yes (and yes on pass-thru charging for most power stations - just know that with Rockpals, it seems to be DC pass-thru only and not AC). It's all going to depend on what type of power-draw your fridge has to determine what size power station you'd need. If you're talking a 12V portable fridge, then most anything in the 500W and up category would get the job done. If you're talking a full-size fridge, most likely you're going to want something in the 2000W category.

Thank you for your video. I don’t know anything about solar power, but I would like to ask you, if I can plug the Elecanta 120 directly to my MacBook, in order to charge it, or I must have also a power station? I am talking, of course, while I am camping in the desert, under very powerful sun. Thank you very much.

Yes, BUT!!! I'd advise against directly connecting the main output of the solar panel to your laptop since the fluctuations in voltage have the potential to cause problems with your laptop. Instead, you could connect and charge through the USB module, using the Type-C port - which is a PD45W connection - so not SUPER fast charge, but definitely will work. If you don't have another use for the 120W panel, you might consider looking for something in the 75W-100W range that has a PD60W Type-C port on it instead - less money (potentially) and slightly faster charging.

@@ReeWrayOutdoors thank you very much for your kind answer. Please forgive my insistence, but could you please suggest me a cheap, but reliable system to install into my 1972 Volkswagen Bus? I can certainly fix a panel on the roof. What else do I need to light a couple of led lights and being able to recharge my IPhone and my MacBook Air with C ports? Thank you very, very much!

Can I use two of these panels with my Generark Home Power One
@ReeWrayOutdoors
2 жыл бұрын
Just looked at their website and it looks like the Home Power One DC input has a Max of 200W (which is better than the Jackery 1000 btw, which Max at 163W). So, yeah, you can definitely do it. You'd just need a parallel adaptor. I even found one for you on Amazon that goes to the Anderson connector DC input on your Generark: amzn.to/3kWvlUe

I am a newbie to this so I hope this isn't a dumb question, but is there a way to use both panels to increase power going into the jackery?
@ReeWrayOutdoors

Not a dumb question at all! Yes...but it also depends on the Jackery model and its max DC input. If you have at least a 1000W Jackery, you can get a parallel adaptor from Jackery for that. If less than 1000W, I wouldn't bother due to the input max being

Yes. Includes 8mm adapters that definitely fit the 1000 and below. If you have a 1500 or 2000, it MIGHT have the adapter for those, but if not, Jackery can provide them.

Funny you should ask that quesion! I'm actually planning a video to demonstrate that very use-case...but I won't be able to get to that for a couple of months, most likely. I'm still doing my research on these kinds of builds, so I'm not an expert - but based on what I've learned so far, I can tell you this. You'll need a Charge Controller and an AC Inverter. If you're just charging that 1 battery with 1 or 2 100W panels, a 20A PWM Change Controller should work for you just fine and they're pretty inexpensive - or you can upgrade to an MPPT charge controller as an option. The AC inverter you'll want to get will largely depend on how much Watt draw you want to support (ie how much sustained power you want to be able to pull out of the batttery)...and that will be determined by what device(s) you want to be able to power at the same time. How long you can power those devices will of course be constrained by your 100Ah battery capacity. :) I hope that helps.

yeah apparently the product demand my video created caught them by surprise and ran them out of stock. I reached out to Elecaenta and they informed me that re-stock is on the way to Amazon US, but probably won't be available until late May. In the meantime, I've got a few more panel reviews in the works. :)

With a solar panel I want to power my 12 volt operable air cooler so do these solar panels have the ability to control output voltage if they have a digital display?

No. None of these portable panels will allow you to control the output voltage directly. You'll need a charge controller (and battery) for that.

@ReeWrayOutdoors

The Jackery 100w panel has a max output on the Type-C port of 15W, while the Elecaenta Type-C is PD45W. Not a huge deal really, but if you want quick charge of USB devices directly from the panel, OR might ever want to use this as a 2nd panel to charge a dual-charge compatible Power Station, you'd definitely prefer the PD45W over plain Type-C.

@@paulcomptonpdphotography probably not since the E500 doesn't seem to have a Type-C PD port on it. If you found a 3rd party parallel adapter, you could get power from both panels into the E500 via their 8mm connectors, but that would only be useful during hazy overcast conditions.

Thx for the video, good info. But it looks like to me the Jackery won this contest. It produced at least the same wattage and yet is only a 100 watt rated panel (so more efficient). It is MUCH easier to set up (and take down) with only 2 panels and each has a leg. It closes almost instantly with the magnets. It also is ETFE coated. Testing solar panels when clouds are passing by is NOT idea by any means. One negative for the Jackery is you might need to purchase a 8mm to MC4 adaptor. Yes, that was an aviation connector.
@ReeWrayOutdoors

It comes down to what you prioritize, I think. For me, I'm willing to spend and extra 6 seconds or so to deploy/ take-down if I'm saving $100. And for clarification, the Elecaenta panels are ETFE coated, just like the Jackery panels. I'll also grant you that the Jackery is slightly more efficient, but even if the net output is equivalent, I'm choosing the Elecaenta due to the significantly lower cost per output watt. And I didn't mention this in the video, but the Elecaenta packs down to a smaller form factor than the Jackery so I find it easier to stow in more places, for what it's worth.

@@ReeWrayOutdoors I guess I should have mentioned the Jackery goes on sale occasionally for $209 so I was thinking of that figure. I have many folding panels and over time I have come to really dislike the 4 panel ones with only 2 legs, they take constant maintenance (keep falling down in the slightest wind). So for me it is MUCH more than that initial 6 extra seconds for the first setup. And the Jackerys are just so easy with only 2 panels and a leg for each panel. Yes, I saw that it had ETFE, first thing I check for nowadays, lol. Yes, the smaller form factor is important for me (small class B RV so every inch is important). I have found my Jackery ALWAYS way outperforms all my other folding panels (not my glass suitcase though). I cannot compare it to Elecaenta of course. I would like to try it against the Bluetti solar panels but so far I have not pulled the trigger.

@@laronis You're making valid points for sure. If I could get the Jackery for 209 and also had a Jackery power station (so didn't need adaptors for it), I'd prob lean Jackery in that case as well.

CAPITALIZING words doesn’t make you sound or seem more important especially when you don’t know shit about that of which you speak. “Its only a 100w panel” yeah thats what the label might say but zero solar panels make rounded number wattages and there is some variation even from the same suppliers and the same panels even in big commercial & residential panels. Source: I own the 4th largest solar company in the US. Thats large enough to get us most favored nation pricing from 5 of the 7 best solar manufacturers in the world. Every single one of them has variation. So Jackery didn’t win anything here. It just happened to make a couple watts more occasionally which amounts to nearly zero real world advantage. Price per real world watt and durability are really the only two ways to compare panels as far as testing. I for one would like to hear about the country the panels are made in
