Can we just give a nod to Bruce here? His playing and his essential, powerful back up singing is just phenomenal. What a class act. It's funny but despite enduring the not so pleasantries of old age, the Jam make me appreciate my age and that I had them to grow up with. Thank you God.

The switching from public gets what the public wants in verse 1 to public wants what they public gets is probably one of the greatest lines you'll find in a UK number one hit single

Absolutely agree; he so vehemently opposed to the Thatcher government and Tory policies at the time- this song- and that line-is Paul spitting in the face of political authority. If he wrote music today with 1/8th the amount of anger and urgency- I’d might buy his albums again.

The Jam! More energy that battersea power station. I had the absolute privilege of seeing them live a number of times. They had the rawness of the punk era mixed with the slickness of the 60's. I don't believe there will ever be a band like it. They were of the moment, of the past and of the future.

What a great band these guys were. I loved there music. I met Paul Weller going back in, i think it was 1983. My buddy and I went to see Teardrop Explodes at a small venue in Toronto, not too far from Maple Leaf gardens. Well, the Jam were playing there and after their concert they came too see Teardrop Explodes. Who sits at out table but none other than Paul Weller. WOW!!! I knew it was him. He said hello and asked if it was alright too sit down. We said sure. The rest is history. LOL.

David Allen Soo true. Weller could have written this today. Nothing ever changes !!! To understand the world at such a young age is incredible. I'm 48 so Weller was only a few years older than me but his insightful lyrics and life commentary, i'm ashamed to say, only hit home years later. How many people in this crowd recognised what he was singing about ????!!!! All of them have grown up now and still living what he wrote about nearly 40 years ago. like I said... nothing changes
