In March 2024, Kansai University of International Studies (KUISs) hosted the 20th ACP International Field Study Program in Kobe, Japan. This program focused on "The Japanese Safety Management and Japanese Culture." Four students from Architecture UGM were among the participants from 15 Southeast Asian universities and KUISs itself.
The program provided a unique opportunity for students to delve into various social initiatives for safety management. Through a combination of lectures and field trips, participants gained valuable insights into Kobe's approach to safety. As a city heavily impacted by the 1995 Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, Kobe has become a leader in disaster risk reduction and mitigation strategies. These experiences offered the Architecture UGM students, along with their peers, a chance to learn from a city that has rebuilt itself with safety at the forefront.
Beyond safety management, the program also offered a cultural immersion for participants. This allowed them to gain a deeper understanding of Japanese culture and traditions. This well-rounded program provided Architecture UGM students and all participants with a valuable international learning experience that combined academic exploration with cultural discovery.
