It’s really nice reading the comments. My pop wrote the original script in the summer of 1969. It’s his brainchild. My mom typed every bit of it when they were first married. Ha. And, then Michael Mann and my father did rewrites after Mann decided to direct it in the late 70’s. The two share an Emmy together. My dad just passed away, but I relayed a number of these comments to him before he did. I know he enjoyed hearing them. It’s a little part of his legacy in this world and something my family will always cherish. So, thank you!

This movie your father wrote influenced my life after doing time as a kid. It took me a few bids but I realized there was more than being behind the wall. It made me strive to succeed. Strange how a film can change a life. It hasn’t always been a straight road but after spending my teens and a good deal of my twenties behind the wall and immersed in a criminal lifestyle I can say to this day I never returned there.

I haven't seen this years and got a hankering to watch it last night. Still as good as I remembered and damn gritty for 70's network TV, due somewhat to the use of real convicts as bit players and extras. Definitely a product of it's era, the black guys all look like they wandered in from a Funkadelic show, and the white guys all look like Molly Hatchet roadies.

Grande postagem! Parabéns pela postagem e embrancing from south of Brasil.

Love this film so much. Strauss gets most of the recognition of course, but I loved Richard Lawson's performance as Stiles. So much humanity in both characters, picking each other up when the time is getting them down. My favorite scene is when Murphy finds the drug money and burns it on the ballfield right in front of Dr. D...when Dr. D put money in front of his friends' life, he hurt Dr. D where it hurt him most - his little drug game and all the cash he was getting from it.

Your father's movie inspired me so much as a teen. I dug in and trained, and trained, and trained. This music from the movie stayed with me always as I ran and ran and ran. I can't stress enough how much of an impact this film had on me. I eventually went on to establish a cross country record at me Jr. High school that has stood for 43 years. The school Burnaby Heights even named an athletic award after me in the end. I anchored my Sr. high school 4x400m relay team to 2 championships and our record time in 1982 has stood for 42 years now. I'll attach a link to the race below. I'm the little guy running anchor in it. So I hope you understand how motivating this movie was to me now. Nothing could touch the motivating rush of Murphy running and that music playing. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! kzitem.info/news/bejne/sYF-xYqVppVmZ4Y kzitem.info/news/bejne/1od_x3mEkmZmhKA (I'm in lane 1 here and went on to be Provincial champion in the 400m)
