You cannot mention Jim without mentioning his right hand man…..Maury Muehleisen. Who also died in the plane crash and was an amazing guitar player

You also can’t forget about Operator which is extremely relatable even though nobody has even spoken to a phone operator in like 25 years

I was going over operator with my wife the other night and just what an amazingly written song it was lyrically. As I’m going over his word choices plus the order of his phrases and what they all mean in telling the story she tells me to stop. She is standing there crying. There is not a single word choice, grammar choice or timing choice in that song that is wasted or without meaning. It honestly makes me jealous because I know I’ll never be able to come anywhere close to that level.

If you're a musician, don't get in an airplane of any kind. Operator was masterful as well. Okay Anthony I know you've got Yes, The preacher and the teacher on the list somewhere! Starship Trooper as well. And you should do a series of motorcycle songs starting with ... well my favorite is BaaaaaaAaD Motor scooooterr by Montrose and company.... And at some point , show us how space station #5 from that same album was done. Massive metal pterodactyls!!!!!

And Maury Muehleisen WAS his band. The two of them together, Maury (lead) and Jim (rhythm) guitar. Singing harmonies. Some piano here and there. Light, fluid bass and drums. That's all they needed. Their arrangements and recordings were brilliant. All centered on Jim's genius songwriting.

Robert Damms. Very true words!! Hearing Maury’s leads on acoustic guitar is always enjoyable for me. I always thought it was kind of unique to hear the leads played on acoustic guitar rather than electric. Even in that singer/songwriter era.
