Yep. 1 million percent agree. I’ve never done any work for nordvang but I’ve heard the nicest things about the person that runs it, and that really matters. Social media and marketing can make or break a company these days. And so can how a pedal looks. Ya sure that fuzz someone has in a raw metal casing sounds great.. but man, to me at least, looks really matter for gear we spend money on. Great video dude!

I have a Gravity! The Klone side is the best Klon I’ve ever tried. By far. So warm yet clear. Low noise floor. And the TS10 is the closest I’ve ever heard to my original mint TS10 that I stupidly sold for $1000. They make perfect pedals!!!!

Can definitely back that up. I’ve bought the gravity, no1, 83, and triple gain. I now only have the Triple gain as it does it all but Henrik was great throughout. He was responsive, friendly and helpful in every communication we had. They are expensive but are worth it IMO. The triple gain will never leave my board. You get what you pay for and to have three exceptional gain options only using one power supply is priceless.

The issue I see with something like the Gravity is that for the same price you can get an OA Halcyon and a Tumnus Deluxe. These two pedals will give you everything the Gravity can, but substantially more given how much more adaptable they are beyond the standard controls. Other than a routing switch, why on earth would you go for the Nordvang? I owned one, and while it was great, I can't understand why I would recommend it over the two I mentioned. Would be interested how you would convince someone Sasha! Great video as always.

I literally came here to say the same thing. I don't think that pedal manufacturers should sell pedals for pennies, but why not get a sugar drive and a cheap tubesreamer and call it done? If I am being brutally honest, that's similar to what I did. Unfortunately I think that's part of why sales are down....choice.

I loved this talk Sasha! I totally agree on all points you made, from design, price point, and aggressive ad campaigns. To Nordvang: The thing that stopped me from getting any Nordvang product, was product availability. I remember when you had your first releases, as soon as I saw them on social media, I also saw them immediately sell out. I was unable to purchase any pedal due to it selling out constantly and this happened after each drop or restock. Sooner or later, I totally forgot about the brand until this video, but now, I have my favorite Klon, TS, and Bluesbreaker pedals already. Please take this as constructive criticism! I love the design and ethos of Nordvang and I have nothing but best wishes for them!

Nordvang Gravity is the best overdrive pedal I own and its been 2 years now. I contacted hm by email and he took the time to respond to me. At that time it was just he and his wife building the pedals and I had to wait 3 months for mine. The Gravity, as well as the 83 is like 3 pedals in one (not even counting the dip switches) so its really not that expensive for all you get compared to say a KTR or King Of Tone, I've had both and this one wins hands down. I'm not sure he advertises anywhere. I think there is only 2 dealers in U.S. I got turned on to it by the demo's of Bert Kingman. and he till mentions it today . Quality? have you opened one up? It looks like a Maserati. on the inside. For those who don't know Nordvang products your missing the boat.. Just get one. You won't be disappointed.

The pedal market audience is fickle (which is what I think you mean by the ‘John Mayer effect’), but the economy is also struggling a little… Nordvang is just straight quality though. I bought a Nordvang No1 Signature a couple of years ago and loved it so much I sold it to fund the ‘83 Drive, which has a near identical circuit on one side (just a little brighter, which I love) and a blues driver on the other. I knew of Nordvang’s love of Mayer, buy did not care - Mayer is not on my playlist - I just love Nordvang’s pedals. Beautifully made, designed, packaged and beautiful sounding. The ‘83 is magnificent. I still haven’t played any Mayer licks. I play blues-jazz, rock, and sometimes just straight bebop (using the 83 with almost no gain for a fat boost when I switch from tele to my semi-hollow). Nordvang’s pedals are among the best. It doesn’t leave my board, along with a Kingsley Page; ExpressoFX germanium boost, Suhr Discovery Delay, all into a Silktone amp. I’d love to see what Nordvang could do with an EQ pedal - I get the sense that he has both the ears and the engineering brain to pull off something that blends the hi fi range of an Empress para EQ pedal with the character of a Fairfield Long Life EQ…

I have a gravity, because I’m a John Mayer fan. Between a fender twin reverb and a strat it gets the exact tone I love for the John thing. But it also serves me very well between a tele and a jtm45 playing more classic rock/blue/funkier stuff. It is top notch build quality and tone, and the design, presentation and packaging is the best I’ve seen.

The market is oversaturated with drive pedals in my opinion. Too many choices sometimes leads to "option paralysis". Same thing happened to Eurorack synthesizers. Then the market gets divided down among 100's of manufacturers = smaller sales, and the smaller companies struggle disproportionately- unless they have some famous player touting them, etc. You do a great job demo'ing Sasha!

It's a great pedal, but the reason for the low sales is not the John Mayer effect. The pedal is competing with a bunch of great Klones, but more problematically it's competing with the KTR and Decibelics in price (the KTR being designed by Bill Finnegan and the Decibelics being as close as you can get to an original Klon). If they lowered the price, they'd see more sales.

The John Mayer Effect is not an issue... I am of the opinion that the producer of of Nordvang Pedals tried to position his products as a Giffen good (a product that people consume more of as the price rises). And it worked. Long enough... for him and a fe others. If you study economy you'll hear about Giffen good during first lectures. Nordvang followed the same path as Vemuram, Analogman and others and suddenly, after many succesful years this "trick" stopped working. I do support idea of rewarding creativity, genuine designs, reliability, paying for effect which are bulit to last, but I also know realize what is the price of electronic parts, components. So called NOS parts usually cost 30 cents more per piece than "casual" parts. But becasue or nevertheless of this they expect us to pay 300%-500% more for their pedals than for "generic ones". I know how much I have to pay for clones of well known pedals (good components, individual design, graphics...I never paid more than 120 USD).Whenever I can aforrd it I buy genuine pedals, not clones. But when I can not.... I think that producers such as Nordvang should at some point mitigate their profit expectations, unless they want to keep relying on cork sniffers and snobs. Hoping that YT influencers will change the mind of average guitar players will change their mind is very naive. Global economy is on the verge of crisis. So if custmers suffer, producers should suffer as well. This is the way.

Nice one Sasha. I totally feel where this is coming from, I am fascinated with the subject and have a strange "need" around the cosmetic or aesthetic designs of a pedal. Quality sound and lasting build or components all matter very much of course, but we often don't know about those things until seeing the pedal age for years. When I look at my pedalboard I want to feel inspired and not completely satisfied with the look, I used to go for a very symmetrical satisfying look and it got boring because my eyes would focus on one thing. Later I discovered if I had a color palette and design that "flows" nicely from piece to piece even if it's less perfect looking as the big picture , it grows on my because my eyes will wander the trail of the colors and shapes of the board, wondering about the sounds etc., my point is that if I have "too clean" or "too perfect" of a layout it turns off that exploring part of my inspiration, so we must seek the wandering eye for visuals and for tones, never settle.

I don't care what a pedal looks like.I just want it to sound good. And presuming that metal heads would appreciate horror motif and be tricked into buying a light overdrive pedal is bit of insult too. I own a Fender Prosonic. Nobody thought Fender could pull off high gain amp, but they did but it did not sell well due to Fenders history and reputation. LPD 87 s an awesome overdrive I recently purchased and its just green.

Interesting. I don’t know If anyone ever heard of Hungry Robot Pedals, but there’s a good chance you haven’t. And as far as I can tell he does everything right. His pedals are amazing (all of them!), the branding is great, they have a very distinctive look, they aren’t cheap, but they certainly aren’t crazy expensive and I contacted them once (I assume it’s just one guy with a couple of helpers - maybe) and he’s an extremely lovable guy. There’s no store here in Europe (that I know of) who sells his stuff. What does he do wrong?!?! Off course, there are lots of brands out there, but that Hungry Robot stuff is truely amazing. I’ve seen the Nordvang pedals pop up often on the webs, but honestly, I never knew there was an association or attempt at association with JM. I think unless there has been significant feedback confirming that issue, it isn’t valid. Although, I’m not currently in the MI industry, looking to the trends of larger brands who have the resources to conduct proper market research and analysis is a smart move. What I do see (from the outside) from big brands is an attempted shift/extension to lower price point products (JHS/sampler/walrus etc). As others have said there is a shift in the economy and consumers will abandon the price point traditionally reserved for vintage/rare component/ limited edition products first. I think only a few companies try to exist in that space (origin, cornerstone?, etc). The boutique model might still work at that price, but a lot of those brands out here in California are run by people in addition to regular jobs. Even then a lot of that success is dependent on sourcing small batches of rare components, which is becoming harder and harder to do. As awful as it was, I really do think the pandemic created a golden era for the pedal industry. We may be coming out of that slowly, I know the MI industry as a whole seems to be slowing down a bit. Who knows, I’m just an idiot on the internet.

The whole gear industry benefited from the pandemic. People weren't going on expensive holidays, they had nothing to do. Let's make some music. Now everyone's back to "normal" but normal has been become more expensive. So I agree with you on the shift in economy and in hindsight I should've included that in the video as well. Nordvang is way too expensive to be considered by the guitarist that is looking for touring quality, at realistic prices for a musician who isn't either making "john Mayer money" or has a Nordvang endorsement. Their price point is aiming at the home hobbyist that has a well paying day job and probably wont take the pedal out of their basement jamroom/studio. There are any number of more affordable Klon clones, Bluesbreaker clones, TS10 clones, ect. There is just little appeal to the brand (to myself and many other touring, grass roots level musicians) other than bragging rights that one can afford one.

Mike Fuller has quite a bit worse opinions/world views, whatever you want to call it, that speak against him than just a questionable attitude against customers. The pedals are absolutely great, no question, but I would still never buy from him. Tsame with brands like the big G when it comes to guitars (Well only that their quality seems to lack behind a lot compared to others). There are many many equally great pedals out there with very nice people behind the brand. To me at least character does matter more after all.

You're not wrong. I don't want to pile on Mike Fuller or anything or even get into any topics related to what he's said or done. People are allowed to have opinions, of course, but when you own a company, the tightropes you have to walk are smaller and require more finesse.
