Australian Army officer Major General Adam Findlay, AM, Special Operations Commander for Australia, hosted several Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence & Trade (JSCFADT) parliamentarians for a visit to Special Operations Command’s Holsworthy Barracks facilities on Friday, 28 August 2020.
Major General Findlay provided the committee members with briefings on Special Operations Command’s history, achievements, transformation, capabilities, modernisation program and tasking.
Special Operations Command personnel from 2nd Commando Regiment, Special Operations Engineer Regiment and 6th Aviation Regiment also provided a counter-terrorism capability demonstration using the Tactical Assault Group-East. TAG-East is a short-notice counter-terrorist force able to respond to a terrorist incident of national importance or in support of state/territory-based police.
Special Operations Command’s mission is to prepare and employ special operations forces in order to defend Australia and its national interests.
Special Operations Command today is a small, high-tempo and diverse multi-disciplinary team drawn from Navy, Army, Air Force, Australian Public Service and contractors continuing 78 years of Australian special operations experience and sacrifice since World War II.
