It honestly annoys me how cowardly DC and WB are with their characters. I do not understand their insistence on not having the Joker appear. Or even have him NAMED. It's the same with Batman. Most of the time in the TV series that spin-off from Batman they never show him in full costume. It just bothers me that they're obviously baiting with Batman related things, but never actually delivering.
@donjon1179

It’s cause tv rights don’t pay as much as movie rights. Plus if WB is in the middle of developing a Batman movie universe or a cinematic universe that Batman is heavily involved in, they don’t want anything to compete with that, ESPECIALLY another version of Batman that could potentially be more popular than the one on the big screen. Movies make the most money, therefore, they will always get special treatment as opposed to TV shows/animated series etc. That’s kinda what happened w Batman the animated series and Batman and Robin/Batman Forever (altho Batman Forever did make bank but it wasn’t THAT well received)

@randallflagg3700

@@parkeranimations3671 - In practice, not really, since it pushed Jeff Matsuda and his team to use lesser-known Bat-rogues, and create awesome OC like Ethan Bennett, the show's first Clayface, who was created because they couldn't use Harvey Dent because of Nolan's trilogy. And Bennett is just one example, "The Batman" used a lot of C-listers and did good stuff with them, and I don't know if we would have gotten episodes with the Wrath & Scorn (his first appearance ever) or Cluemaster, or have a badass episode like *"Team Penguin"* if they were allowed to use the big guns. Lots of people nowadays are constantly complaining that the Joker is shoe-horned into every Batman movie, cartoon and comic book, but when a show like *Titans* does its best to abridge the Joker parts of arcs like "Under the Red Hood" to give Scarecrow, Jason Todd and Lady Vic more screentime, people also complain en-masse that WB doesn't allow the live action shows to use Joker & Batman. It just feels like there's no winning with a certain chunk of the fandom, no matter what they do, so they might as well carry on. *Titans & Doom Patrol* were awesome IMHO, and with the antepenultimate episode of Doom Patrol season 4 airing today, it's another chapter of DC that is sadly closing very soon. Same with the upcoming *Superman & Lois* season 4 being the end of the Arrowverse... Let's hope that the *DCU* will handle everything better, and that everyone will be satisfied.

It’s ironic that the shadowy gothic looking Batman is the protagonist of this series but a colorful flamboyant looking clown is one of the most evil characters in this series. Nice contrasts and by that I mean stereotypically a bright colored character would usually go to the hero and a dark clothed character to the villain. But in this series if we're just comparing these two characters it's the opposite direction. Heck there colors compliment there personalities a little bit with Bat's being a moody loner so he has a dark & gloomy aesthetic we're as Joker's is bright & vibrant like he wants or craves the attention fitting for a vain person. In fact I think one of his greatest fears despite being a sociopath is being ignored or forgotten like what I think happened during the events of Batman Beyond & Arkham Knight which both take place after the clown prince of crime had kicked the bucket. And yet hardly that many of the towns folk or even the villian's cared about his demise or even his existence even after all the effort he did to be remembered...ouch. So I guess to quote a line from the clown himself (It be funny if it wasn't so pathetic....) Though to be fair this sadistic sack clown very much deserves it to be honest. And I honestly can't say I feel all that bad when bad things happen to this green and purple scumbag. Such as when he gets his smug face smashed in by Batman's fists or having his legacy made fun of by Beyond's Batman Terry Mcginnis while he was fighting the Jokerized/Corrupted Tim Drake in the Beyond film.

The Onstar Batman commercials imo still have the best live action take on the Batman universe not even lying. If it wasn't an Onstar commercial and it was the actual film series or show, it would be the most direct translation of the comic's universe at the time, or the most direct translation of BTAS. Even if it was based on the Burton/Schumaker movies, the way characters like Joker and Penguin are depicted are more in line with their comic counterparts and the world of Gotham has the perfect blend of camp and noir. I'm not one to get too hung up on everything having to be comic accurate, but if we were to get one, the Onstar Batman universe would be the closest to reaching a comic-book aesthetic

Well, the only "tie-in" to the Arrowverse is that in the last episode of *Arrow* , we see the "Van Wayne Industries" sign in the background of one scene. I had actually watched the show, and I'm pretty sure that I had missed that sign the first time I watched that episode... (And honestly it kinda makes one wonder why Kate Kane never reached out to her cousin Vanderveer "Van" Wayne when she ran into her own troubles, if he has a powerful securitycompany in Gotham City dealing with super-weapons, and with plenty of connections to super-heros & villains; yes she is an idiot, but Luke Fox is smart, he would have considered it) Anyway, I was happy to see Vee talk about *Powerless* , I remember recommending that he reviews the last episode of the show, _"Win, Luthor, Draw"_ as a homage to Adam West back in the ol' days, since his role as the chairman of Wayne Security was his last live action role ever... Like the awesome *Batman vs Two-Face* movie, that last episode of *Powerless* was released post-mortem, despite the fact that the show was removed from the air while season 1 was still airing because absolutely no one was watching it (they didn't promote it at all), so back then they released that particular episode for free on DC's official youtube channel in memory of Adam West... It was a nice move, and it retroactively introduced a lot of people to the show.

@@thenight1647 - Hey there! That's an interesting question, I was starting to answer it then remembered that the crossover _Crisis on Infinite Earths_ takes place during *Batwoman* season 1, and lots of stuff, both minor and major, were changed by this event... Plus, there are 2 different episode 1 for the show *Powerless* , a first pilot that was aired at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con, but aside from some promotional DVDs that were given out at the event (a fan uploaded it on the SuperHeroHype forums so some of us got to watch it that way) the episode never aired on TV... So a lot of people never got a chance to watch it until last year, when Vanessa Hudgens, who plays the main character of the show, Emily Locke, uploaded the unaired alternative pilot to her youtube channel after a fan sent her the promotional DVD that included the episode. Buuuut that wasn't what you asked, my bad ^^' about your questions, there is indeed some stuff that contradicts the Arrowverse in that show... First thing first, that "Van Wayne Industries" billboard that we see in *Arrow* ... that's not what the company is called in *Powerless* It's "Wayne Security", so it might not even be the same business at all, but something else that Vanderveer Wayne opened at some point. Also, Batman is active during the events of the show, and Joker is alive; so it can't take place in the same time as *Batwoman* , in which Joker died and Batman disappeared 3 years before the first season started (in universe, Joker died in 2015, and the show starts in 2018). Another important difference is that Lois Lane dies during the events of the first (and last) season of *Powerless* , and Lois is around in the Arrowvese, both before & after Crisis, and both on Supergirl's Earth-38 (after Crisis her Earth is merged with the one where The Flash and Arrow take place) and on the *Superman & Lois* Earth-TUD25. ... and other minor stuff that makes me think that the billboard that we see in *Arrow* is obviously for the same "Wayne Security" company, but one from a different Earth than the one that we saw in *Powerless* Anyway, I'd recommend this show if you're a hardcore DC fan, since there are some really obscure heroes & villains who pop up in it, plus some famous DC writers and iconic actors who plays a role here and there, lots of deep cuts in there! ... Plus, so far it's the only place where my girl Fire/Green Fury (Beatriz Da Costa) got a live action adaptation, so I have a soft spot for it

True the rendition at 8:11 resembles the version of the comic book character to whom we were most accustomed at the time. I myself used to think Jack Nicholson was more or less all wrong physically because the 80s joker was tall and lanky. Look at the very first published artwork of the Joker, though. (To think it's going on 85 years old.) He's broad-shouldered and his wardrobe is inspired by gangsters. The villain origin story of Batman '89 doesn't match. The visual, however, is quite faithful.

There was an early 2000s comic line called Just Imagine Stan Lee Creating the DC Universe. His Batman comic didn't have a Joker but a recently released sequel to the comic DOES: This Joker is a serial killer called The Choker.

The reason why the Joker is shown the way he is in those projects is because WB has a rule using a live action character one time per project. Meaning; during the Titans series run the Leto version of the Joker was going to be used. The way around that is the crisis on infinite Earths event when they had multiple Batmans including multiple Robins like Burt Ward walking Ace the dog along with Conroy as a live action Bruce Wayne. Plus, in the birds of prey tv show it was focused on Harley Quinn as the main villain.

There's something called the "Bat-embargo" which is why some of these versions you mentioned don't show the character fully, differ a lot from the source material or are very brief. Basically DC will restrict shows from using certain Batman characters that already used in other media around the same time. But they are inconsistent and hypocritical when it comes to enforcing this rule.

Whoa, I know that's not Tim Curry or Bill Skarsgard and I've seen the Revenge of the Nerds movies but, at 7:41 when that face appeared, I immediately thought Pennywise.

The Snickers and OnStar ads show the issue I have with using prosthetics to copy the chin and cheek bones of the comics. Adding prosthetics and extensive makeup to a regular human head will only result in a larger than normal head, which is the exact opposite of the comic book's thinner (or more emaciated?) than normal head. (It is similar to why Peter Weller was cast to play Robocop; he was physically thin enough that he wouldn't look too bulky in costume.)

I don’t usually comment, but imo, the best portrayal of COMICS Joker on screen isn’t the Joker at all. Rob Zombie’s “31” main clown villain Doomhead, wasn’t only inspired by All Star Batman and Robin’s Joker but Richard Brake (GoT’s Night King) plays him in such a chilling way that he makes even Ledgers portrayal seem pretty G rated. If you are a fan of the darker more psychotic version of the Joker we often see in the comics and wonder why the movies and shows never seem to get it quite right, go watch Zombie’s 31 and tell me it didn’t make your entire day. Again, NOT the Joker… but 100% Joker. Rob knows it too, he f’ed around and made the PERFECT JOKER.
