I was interviewing(in Stamford) to be a writer for WWE many years ago. In the writers room with all the writers present, Michael Hayes asked me what my favorite angle of all time was; I replied the Mega Powers forming and break up. He then asked what I thought was the worst, and I IMMEDIATELY without hesitation said “Katie Vick”. I’ll never forget the uncomfortable silence in the room as if I SHOULD have said Shockmaster or some WCW property. The impression was the higher ups loved this angle but all the writers HATED IT but couldn’t or wouldn’t say. All Michael Hayes replied to me was “Katie Vick... (long pause)...that was.... um .... very... interesting.” Needless to say, I wasn’t hired but I’ll never forget that awkward silence as soon as I said, “Katie Vick”. I STILL stand by that statement that it was indeed the worst angle ever!!!

@@kenterminateddq5311 Thank you! Here is how it happened. Sit back, here comes story time. Back in the early 2000s I was an independent wrestler in Florida. The key is I was trained by Steve Keirn and my training occurred during the brief time Eddie Guerrero was let go by the WWE. Because he was in town (for rehab) he trained me as well. Since Eddie was always wrestling (except this brief time) and because he passed so tragically early, this makes me one of the very very VERY few to ever be trained by him. Because of that amazing pedigree (trained by Keirn and Eddie) it enabled me to work wrestling events that far surpassed my actual talent : ) I loved creative and would spend a lot of time with the bookers learning the art of storytelling, to the point I had a small reputation as a good writer! Through my adventures I became quite good friends with “Molly Holly”. She asked Stephanie McMahon for me how to become a writer. Steph had me send some scripts to her and that is how the interview happened. I was only scheduled for one day of interviews but that first day went so well they asked me if I could stay an extra day so I could have a personal interview with Stephanie the next day (who was head of creative at the time). I was beyond elated thinking I had “made it”! I was so close on day one they were discussing benefits and pay packages etc....THEN came day two Stephanie was extremely kind and actually very nice but our philosophies on what makes a great writer were polar opposites. She was looking for soap opera and SNL writers. I was pushing for a balance of a few wrestling writers. Purists like me who love the business. It didn’t go great. I was so close. Almost 20 years later I honestly still have nightmares about missing out on my absolute dream job after coming so close. So yes, you do send in script ideas but I think it was my connection to Molly that actually got me the interview. I have always thought of doing a KZitem video about this WWE interview experience bc people seem quite intrigued but I don’t have enough KZitem subscribers to make a difference. Maybe I can tell my story and send it to Solomonster and see if HE wants to share it! His channel is the BEST!

26:19 The Katie Vick storyline contradicted Kane's entire backstory. We were supposed to believe a guy who'd spent years in a mental institution after scarring himself in a fire he set, a fire that killed his mother and adopted father and burned down their funeral home and was treated as a deformed freak by everyone he knew somehow had a girlfriend, snuck out to watch wrestling shows with her while training to be a wrestler himself and that she was in the crowds when he started wrestling. The Kane character, who was established as a loner and outsider was suddenly supposedly going to parties and getting drunk. It was stupid.

I saw the Katie Vick incident at the time when it aired on TV back in 2002. My sister is 3 years older than me so when she saw Triple H wearing the Kane mask and getting inside the casket humping the dead mannequin that was supposed to be Katie Vick, she changed the channel and I asked _"why ?"_ and she said it's because it's disgusting. Looking back at it now, she was absolutely right.

Oh God, the Katie Vick story was stupid. Especially because of how confusing it was as to how seriously we were supposed to be taking it. I mean, Triple H would talk about how Kane was a murderer and a necrophiliac and whatnot, but then, he'd show video of himself dressed as Kane having sex with a mannequin, and they'd cut back to Hunter laughing his ass off, and it feels more like dark humour, except done really badly and to an audience that includes CHILDREN.

The funniest part about the snake bite scene, other than Vince trying and failing to stifle that laugh from the crying kid to the end, was that during the actual snake bite Jake was trying to pull the Cobra off Randy and when he asked Randy if he was okay under his breath, Randy was like "fuuuuuck yoooooou! fuuuuuck yoooooou!" I liked the Katie Vick angle. I think with changing attitudes over time, people who once liked it have soured on it and view it negatively in retrospect because that's the prevailing opinion. They're discouraged from liking it because they're viewed as "weird" or "deranged." People talk about Katie Vick as if it's one of the most grotesque things they've seen. Meanwhile, they'll go and watch a horror movie like Saw 20 where people mutilate themselves to escape a serial killer. This is all entertainment. If you don't like it, don't watch it. There's a reason why I don't watch horror movies anymore. I find them pointless, formulaic and dumbed-down.

I watched the Katie Vick scene recently... Not nearly as stomach churning as Raw and Dynamite are every week, (please watch ROH and Impact folks, they deserve it). Jake and Savage could make you believe anything! Nobody else could have done that angle, and it was as perfect as any wrestling moment ever, match, segment, anything.
