I saw him play a lot in college at TN. Nice guy, used to sit next to me in geography class so he could read my newspaper's sports section. And then even after he hurt his knee.

Absolutely. Bk was one of the 1st to make a solid, successful comeback from a serious knee injury. Though the Knicks weren't so confident about it. BEFORE MJ, u could make the case he was the best perimeter scorer in the world. Bird, Nique, English, and Dantley are up there too. BUT King had the best blend of explosiveness, efficiency, and complete scoring skillset AS A PACKAGE! Bird was the best shooter of that group. Nique the most freakish athletic. English the smoothest. And Dantley the best on the block. King's peak status FOR SURE is among the top 10 SF's of all time in my opinion. He's up there with Bron, Bird, KD, Kawhi, Doc, Baylor, G Hill, Barry, and Nique.

Anansi Larry bird has shoot over 50 percent from the field before in fact he’s done that 5 times 2 of which have been the rare 50 40 90. Also Larry bird is far better 3 point and free throw shooter, if we bring up the 2 he’s similar in percentage too but I would give the slight advantage to bk but overall as a shooters bird has more range. Bk shoot closer to the basket so it be easier for him to average over 50% but wasn’t near the level of shooter that bird was. Not saying this to hate on bk, but besides the 2 Larry bird has been a better shooter at every other range.

King was unstoppable!! In that playoff series against the pistons, King had splints on his index finger and ring fingers on both hands. That was the most amazing offensive display I have ever seen including now. Lastly, in the Boston series, Cedric Maxwell said " That bitch ain't scoring 40 on me, King scored 43". In King's prime, he was truly unstoppable. He killed everybody, Bird, Jordan, Barkley, Magic, and the whole Celtic team. He is my favorite of all time bar none. 1 point you overlooked. '87 was Patrick Ewing's rookie year. He & King were actually teammates. However they never played 1 game together. As you said, King only played the final 6 games that season. By that time Ewing suffered a season ending injury. King was traded to Washington during the off-season & became a multi year All-Star, as did Ewing for NY. Bernard King was so good offensively it was downright FRIGHTENING...when he was healthy, that is. His lightning-quick turnaround mid-range jumper was literally unguardable and he was an excellent finisher in transition as well. Thing is, he was not a ballhog either. Guy was a proven winner when his team needed him most and whenever he did give the ball up it usually found its way back to him (lol). If not for blowing his knee out near the end of that 1984-85 regular season, he'd wind up being a Top 5 All-Time player at the SF position and arguably the best player in Knicks franchise history for that matter. If only the Knicks' front office had held on to him after drafting Ewing:::deep sigh:::would've pre-dated Shaq and Kobe by a good 12 or so years...

There are two perimeter players I can think of who just scored so effortlessly to the point where it looks "automatic" and that is KD and Bernard King. Thats not to say that MJ or Kobe weren't automatic, they just hit you with a lot of dismantling moves first. KD and King both damn near just throw it up and it's in.

BTW, here's an odd one for you when you're looking for something different to talk about. How about Mark Aguire as one of the great streak shooters in NBA history? I remember watching a game where he hit several threes in a row and then he pulled up two steps inside the half court line because he knew he was too hot to stop shooting....and he made it. He was way too inconsistent to be an NBA great, but when he was on, he was as good as anyone.

S Des I remember him well, especially from the Detroit championships, but that was a little past his prime. I watched him play on my dad’s VHS tapes. Funny story, I remember this like it was yesterday... so it’s 1998, I’m 9 years old, my dad is out of town, and he calls home, and he’s telling my mom “Tell Jonny to turn on the TV, Mark McGwire is about to break the record!” my mom tells me and I’m confused AF. I have no idea who Mark McGuire is. I didn’t care about Baseball as a kid.... but I knew who Mark Aguirre was! So I thought that’s what she said, but I’m still confused because I kinda knew he was retired, and even if he came back, I knew Aguirre was good, but breaking Wilt’s 100 point record?!?! That’s crazy! My mom gave me the phone, and when my dad explained to me that he was talking about a baseball player, I was suuuper disappointed. Lol. I thought maybe Aguirre was scoring 101

@@jonnyarnett I grew up in Chicago so was a big DePaul fan. I got to see him play in college (and sadly fail on one of the best college teams of all time), then watched him play with Dallas who was one of the only teams with a satellite contract back then. It was cool to follow his career until the Pistons when they fed his worst instincts and turned him into a punk. He was always a black hole of shooting, but as talented an offensive player as anyone (and a lot of similarities with King).

S Des I know about his numbers from his Dallas days, but didn’t see too much film. If I make a video about him, it will be one of the ones where I’ll have to do A LOT of research to give an honest and well-informed script, but I certainly don’t mind doing that. I imagine that Bad Boy Detroit culture turned everyone into a punk. Haha. My dad HATED the Pistons, and remember I did too as a kid just from watching the tapes and seeing their violent style. My dad still talks about the 89 Finals as one of his worst memories as a Laker fan.

@coffeeinthemorning and what's really sad is interior defenses a joke these days so a player like Aguirre would average 30 points a game for his career. But everybody has to hit the three-point shot to catch the scouts attention so the only people working on their mid-range games are the ones incapable of developing a three-point shot and those guys are never going to have the kind of touch that the old-school players had. When a choir started getting a little older and a little beat up he moved outside and was an excellent three-point shooter, although a little streaky. The difference between him and these guys is that you can't start as a three-point shooter and develop a great mid-range game. That kind of thing comes through years and years of practice and working against quality defenders who might be bigger than you so you can learn how to get off shots in a crowd.

Is this the 80's version of lebron james? I like to play the what if game as well. Like I'm pretty sure i was African American, 19yrs old, who was 7 inches taller, my vertical was double what it is currently... now 40. I didnt have a horrifically terrible case of fetal alcohol syndrome making me what some might term "a lemon head" which makes it difficult for me to run in a strait line or not fall over. I didn't have the ugliest jump shot since shawn marion & I had more nba knowledge regarding the game over and above the cursory knowledge I gained from nba live 95 in which I simmed approx 75% of the NBA's full season which is what 32 games total? I think I could def bbe the NBA's next daryl strawberry. What can I say I love cocaine.

If he played in this version of the NBA he would easily average 30+ppg every season.

One thing. It would have been great to see a healthy Bernard King on the same floor with Patrick Ewing for the Knicks

Bernard king led the NBA in scoring one year with no anterior cruciate ligament. Chew on that

The Lakers should ask King to come out of retirement and help them score and close games.
