This seems really intriguing - I wonder if I can find a group to play with...hmm This is a great approach to a legacy game: where the unfolding story is the priority.

PSA: I bought the physical copy but didn't have the bravery to play a game with a group, not knowing if they would stick with this legacy game (also, this is my first game of its kind.) I did, however, realize that Table Top Simulator has the game on there for free as a mod. I've been playing the game on TTS since and am loving it so far! I think it's a blast and having a good group really helps. We role play the crap out of it! Will definitely finish

You said you've had people switch in and out - does it stay balanced for dropping out/adding in? Or do you always need to aim for the same player count?
@pavv7741
3 жыл бұрын
it's been 2 years and I hope you still need to know this. yes you should aim for the same people, but you don't need the same people, this game takes place over 15-20 game sessions and each session can take an hour and a half meaning it might take your group 6 months to complete the campaign. each time you play the game essentially you are a new person, your goals for your house are the same over the campaign but your actual person controlling your house is different from session to session, so if I played the house of blah one game and didn't like the game, someone else can take over my house and not affect the game at all. also if a house drops out, someone else who has never played before can pick a new house and jump in mid campaign, I don't know how this works but I can tell you that the game isn't won with prestige, the last session introduces a new point system that determines who wins, you don't know how to win until you finish the game.

It's a bit sad to see how reviewers are forced by hype to provide reviews of legacy games before they finish them :( I think it's unfair to call it 'review' as it is still completely possible that by the end of the game you will be less happy about spent time if the ending is meh or the last few plays were mundane. Still I need to admit that the sooner we get this kind of previews the sooner we can jump on a hype train and enjoy one thing before another overshadows it with new wave of anticipation.

I've played nine games over the course of a month. I don't think I'm rushing it at all. :)
@dearmrdw
5 жыл бұрын
@@thedicetower sure, but this is still not the whole game, maybe just half of it from what I understood. I still remember how it happened with SeaFall when it went from yay/maybe-ok to nay/horrible. Of course this half of the game review is much better than no review and this is a big time investment from you guys, but I'm still waiting for the full review of Queensdale, Clan Legacy and maybe The King's Dilemma? Of course 9 games for $50 is already a ton of great content and already a better deal time-wise than Exit games for the same price (and I think Exit games are totally worth all the fun time they provide, no complains here :) ), yet what if it will be the same fiasco as Time Stories, where half of the games were good to great and the rest... well, you have a good full review out there :)
@dearmrdw
5 жыл бұрын
But if I'm wrong and it's not a pressure from audience/time that leads to half-reviews, this is cool. PS. and of course I wouldn't expect fully finished play of a game like Gloomhaven before reviewing it :D
