He later did (when he cried in the crater with the injured man), sadly, it was already late 😢 I like how the movie didn't hold back... On one hand, Conrad got to do something glorious by rescuing the injured soldier and running all the way across, and I think he deserved that honour of being portrayed as a hero. On the other hand, the tragic nature of war didn't give a damn, he died like he was nothing, quick bullet to the head in the most unexpected way... The other kingsman films are a bit more ridiculous, still good in their own right. But this film seems more serious, a bit darker. The first one had a mass church massacre, yet it handled it in a bit more lighter tone, graphic, but it had free bird to lighten the mood up a bit. This film was taking itself seriously and was focused on the horrors of war. This film replaced the first one as my favorite of the franchise. The secret service is my second favorite, and last is golden circle. It does have the human hamburger scene which is memorable.

@Aveteran Player true, 1917 shows trenches quite accurately, as they had parapets, dugouts, a kitchen, a general's quarters, one-way systems etc. An honorable mention is the last battle scene in Paschendaele, as they get the sound of artillery hauntingly right, and the landscape looks believable too, however the combat tactics the canadians portrayed in the film were probably false IRL. Complete and utter bullshit. Stormtroopers were introduced in 1917-18 where they were used against the Romanians and afterwards, the French, during the great spring offensive called "The Kaiserschlacht.". Their role was to create breakthroughs in the allied lines and exploit the advantages by harassing reinforcements ready for the main body of the German army to push ahead with them. Trench raiding parties had existed for years prior to the introduction of stumtruppen units and both sides did this extensively for various reasons such as gathering intelligence, setting up traps, taking prisoners, or even attempts to secure a section of trenchline for the main attack. Also the gas masks used in this scene are from around 1916 due to the fact gas warfare had not been used until around 1915. Same goes for the helmets. The stahlhelm or steel helmet was in service from 1916 as well. If you want to state facts, state them factually and accurately.

It hurts, man. Even on our tv at home with standard sound setup, it was absolutely edge-of-your-seat insanity. I was not expecting it to be that gritty and brutal in this movie, and then the way the next scene plays out is the icing on the cake. Damn good. The movie had a strange bipolar tone, but I think for the most part, it's a solid 7.5 out of 10.

I think this movie got really unfair and undeserved reviews, and it’s a damn shame because I think a LOT of people will regret not seeing it on the big screen...

@Mr Garcia I cannot speak for every cinema but at the viewing I attended it was very silent very very quiet. The occasional gasp but it was very quick and cut short. You could feel the heaviness in the air so to speak, you could feel people holding their breath. The entire movie was so amazing to see in cinema paired with the amazing sound and tension.

Imagine if the German soldiers didn't have masks on. A lot of the fear is taken away because there's a face to attach it to. But those gas masks add such a layer of tension and fear that wouldn't be there.

That’s why they do it, it’s an intimidation thing, if your enemy believes that you aren’t ‘human’ then they’ll be more fearful to fight you.

The image of Conrad finishing the second gasmask guy, only to see the big dude with the hammer stealthily coming at him, I can't explain but it just "works." The music is pretty tense by that point and the stuff about "these are just human beings" has already been done with the first guy he killed, so to see the armoured German, whom we've already seen being pretty efficient at dispatching fools, coming at him in full stealth, it just gives me this vibe of "Alright, you've seen the humans, now *here's* the monster."

I watched this movie with dread for Conrad and when he was in the trenches i was so tense and uncomfortable i couldnt catch my breath, there’s not many movies that fill me with that sense of … let’s call it fear, when we saw the german soldier slip on his (i dont know terminology) spike, and the soldier with the hammer i felt terror as if i was there, seeing the gas mask and hearing the breathing affected me and i almost felt scared, when they all put their guns down and advanced toward each other drawing their melee weapons, i feared the brutality, i do not want to disrespect the kind of real actual fear that soldiers felt, feel and suffered when i was simply watching a movie, with no threat on anything except my time, but i held my breath during this scene feeling the mounting anxiety in myself, the sound for this scene is spot on, it is so incredibly poignant as well as brutal, seeing conrad weeping in a shallow ditch in no mans land with both sides alerted to his presence and waiting was heartbreaking, i think that really showed the reality of that war, when all the propoganda and patriotism was removed and it came down to real men in real danger, with the constant threat of being killed

As a scotsman this enrages and pains me to watch fellow scotsman being slain like them but do NOT for a minute forget that these germans are stormtroopers (highly trained fighters) and considering the scotsmen were just regular soldiers they fought damn fucking well.

Nah, movie wad definitely fun to watch it is an 8.5, there was hardly anything bad, and the cliche scenes were made intentionally, and this scene was just fucking perfect, this movie did what other movies will never do and is feeling the fight, I didnt touch my cellphone the whole time, at least this movie was better than uncharted in terms of action. 5/10 nah bro you either dumb or have impossible standards seriously
