Same here. I was 12 back in 1998, I would have definitely remembered this airing on tv especially with Jenifer Lewis in it. I guess it never got off the ground, so it never aired.

Back in the day, I remember hearing that the show was a go until, going forward, the producers wanted Kirk's character to go in a direction in which he felt he would be compromised. So he backed out.

This pilot is better than most shows with full seasons of episodes today. Someone dropped the ball. In 98' ,I'd be glued to the TV watching this show. Kirk had some acting chops, too. AND the cast???? What?? Pretty solid to me. What could've been. 👍🏽💯

I disagree, depending on the type of shows you are talking about, this would be true if you are talking about “sitcoms”, but most shows today tend to not be along those lines. However, many of them have really good pilots, they tend to lean towards dramas and action now.

The Kirk Franklin Show should have been picked up by UPN and could have aired on Monday Nights despite the fact that it was pitched to ABC but UPN was a better fit mainly due to the black sitcoms.

During this time, ALL of the Black TV shows were getting cancelled. There was a "writers strike," and the NAACP had to step in. UPN the WB dissolved and we got the CW. THE Game and Tyra Banks shows survived barely from UPN. WB had the Wayans and Sister Sister.

WOW!! This was around the same time that we were filming THE STEVE HARVEY SHOW I bet. I played CLYDE THE SLIDE of The Hightops on the show. This would have been a great addition to the black sitcoms roster.

with it being a christian based show, its not really outta place. footwashing is something they both would have done for each other and those in the church as a show of humility and service. I thought it was a sweet gesture. Especially for a lil bro to a big sis.

He was super young here in 1998. Plus he was involved in a car accident later in life that reconstructed his facial structure,no vanity cosmetic surgery.

Oh, finally! I remembered he talked about filming a sitcom on a TV talk show years ago. Nothing happened after that. It's wonderful the pilot was found(?) and is able to be shown. Thank you for sharing.
