Costs we paid: Pomfret thali Rs 150, veg thali Rs 100, prawns plate Rs 300
We are on our way to Mapusa to a small place called The Kitchen, run by the Pednekars which one of our viewers told us about. Our viewer Valerie Rodrigues said plenty of office goers in Mapusa come to The Kitchen for its reasonably priced fish thalis
The Kitchen, by Pednekar's
Ground floor, Vathar residency, First, behind Poshak Showroom, Morod, Mapusa, Goa 403507
Google Maps location: maps.app.goo.g...
Pednekar's The Kitchen is just a short walk away from the fish market side of Mapusa market in Morod, Mapusa. Quite soon after leaving the market you will see the sign for The Kitchen on the left, just before that yellow building. Enter that lane behind the sign and ahead is Pednekar’s Kitchen. A spanking clean hole in the wall where customers tuck in to fish curry rice plates
Plenty of office goers were eating there when we arrived.
The Kitchen is a simple place without a menu, just a list of the fish available on the day. It’s all about serving home made fish curry rice quickly to customers, who in turn quickly eat and leave. There is constant movement of people coming and going here. Some are getting extra portions of curry and rice, some are finishing, some are eating while others are just arriving for their lunch
At lunch time, tables don’t stay empty for long here. Hungry office goers keep coming in
Today Lesley had pomfret thali and Maria had veg thali. We also had a prawns plate
The pomfret thali had fried pomfret, pickle, salad, sal kari, kheer, kismur, teesrio, tidki-midki bhaji, chonak curry and rice
The veg thali had batata fodi, sal kari, sevaiyan kheer, tidki-midki bhaji, cauliflower bhaji, chonnem gravy, rice, papor, pickle and salad
The fried prawns were a very good size, piping hot and delicious.
The fish curry was also absolutely delicious
The pomfret fry was also superb. Crisp outside, creamy inside
Teesrio sukha was also lovely
Such a small place is so generous. There are more than the usual number of items on the thali, like a sweet dish. Veg thali also had two bhajis. Also they give extra servings of rice and fish curry. It tells you how big hearted the Pednekars are
Just as impressive as the meal was the bill. Just Rs 570 for all that. We don’t think we had such good food, so cheap, anywhere in Goa so far. No wonder Pednekar’s Kitchen is packed with office goers
What a fabulous lunch that was
Thank you Valerie Rodrigues from Mapusa for telling us about the lovely place
We have no hesitation in saying that the fish curry is one of the best we had in Goa ever
