The Volcas have been very influential, making affordable hardware synths for the masses. We're still getting new Volca models 10 years later, Roland's portable Aira synths are also inspired by Volcas (Rolca?) and Behringers Mini and micro synths also play homage to the Volca series (I have a Bolca VS Mini, it's great!)

Thanks for the great video. I've got an issue running my Volca Beats and Bass into a Scarlett 2i2 Audio Interface. The volcas sound great when I plug my headphones into them directly, but sound terrible when routed through the Scarlett into Ableton. Any advice?

Marc, in the owner's manual is a block diagram of the machine, and the "Grain" sound is created by sending six square waves of different frequencies into three XOR logic gates, and the result is summed and put through a bandpass filter. I suppose the knob controls the frequencies. So yeah, it's basically three ring modulators.

I'm really tired of people whining about how 'weak' this drum machine is. There are different types of music out there. If you want an 808. Go buy an 808. Personally this is my preferred sound, it's kind of lo-fii, reminds me of old organ or casiotone drums which I adore. Anyone who expects it to sound like an 808 isn't very observant, there's been heaps of videos which show it has its own character.

How is the volca beats for making a beat for a full song? IE Intro verse chorus verse chorus outro or any order thereof. If it is capable of allowing me to create beats for each of those parts individually and then click one button and just let the machine do its thing while I play along, Im sold. If not could any of you possibly enlighten me on what drum machine can do that? Thanks.
@finnh6637
9 жыл бұрын
Tate Hiebert this is possible by recording/sequencing different parts to your track and saving each of them to one of the 8 memory slots, then change between those saved parts during your performance as needed. I don't think there is a way you can set it to automatically change between saved parts. The volca beats in my opinion really shines when you have hands available to manipulate the controls live. I'm no expert on drum machines but maybe drop into your local music store and have a chat to them?

For anyone else looking for an answer to this, the Volca Sample has a song mode that can do this and is in many ways a more competent drum machine than the Beats.

@@automaticgainsay while I don't think it's *necessary* it would have really helped--the arturia drumbrute impact is a great example of how just distortion can help a drum machine attain a very unique character. Also, I've recorded lots of music with Casios and other cheapo synths/samplers/drum machines and it always sounds great --once fx are applied!

The other thing is that the purpose of my videos is to give people s sense of what the synths actually sound like.
