hi, thanks for the comment, I suggest using 8fps while loading to prevent the risk of messing up the coil. Looking forward to seeing footage from your Krasnogorsk 16mm version. Please let me know when you post it.

Nicely made, but I have a few suggestions to other K3 owners. 90 percent of you wont get your camera to auto load like this. Don't worry, on the two rollers immediately where the film goes into and finally out of the mechanism, lift these up and swing them out of the way. They move a few millimetres. Also gently lift the back plate (sometimes called film gate-wrongly) away. otherwise follow the steps in this video, then replace the back plate, swing rollers back. Check also with door on.

obrigado Paulo....one question...I have a Gossen light meter without the CINE information what would your advice be for setting up readings....I was thinking the shutter speed 1/50 sec (for the 24 fps) at half box speed (this is what I always did with photography film...e.g Kodak 400 Tmax I rated at 200 asa) and whatever aperture I want depending on the conditions and using a variable ND filter......

This is a fiddly beast (without a manual) but yes those two rollers will swing back if you lift their tops slightly. Had more success loading at 24fps, don't know why. The exit roller always had to be ajar for me to get the film past this point. Then difficult to close the roller properly but important: when it does close it drops down a fraction of a millimetre. If it doesn't do this you will have trouble getting the lid to close properly. It took me several hours to make headway but I did ;)

I've got one - i took the aperture plate off and my dad's coworker carefully filed the aperture to near super16mm size. Unfortunately I put it back on before grounding it so that it doesn't mark the film, so i must take it apart again. I also removed the loop formers. I would suggest that they be removed to be honest. It runs test film really well. I didn't think about the 8fps loading procedure though. I need to use it and post footage of it.. 150 dollars very cool

I got the aaton with a zeiss 16mm for about 3500 off of ebay a few years back.. film can be purchased directly from kodak I believe.. that is the 'freshest' film anyway, but you can often buy off ebay as well as people sell their leftover stock

Hi, Vytas, I know. I was using a used film, so I had to put it in upside down, I said it on the original sound, but then I had to use KZitem music to cover it up due to license issues with the background sound.

Is there a way you can disengage the motor and re-wind the film to get a double exposure?
@ChristopherSobieniak

I don't think there is. I have one of these cameras and that was a drawback for me too (was hoping one was possible like on a Bolex).

Is it normal for the trigger to be a bit loose? I'm wondering if mine might be missing a spring.

Hi Jason, mine was just a little loose, but once you press it you definitely feel the spring

The reels of Kodak 16mm film are supplied on Aluminium reels with the film protected from the light. During loading, when the film seal is opened, the first few loops are exposed to the light, but the rest is OK until you open the loading door again.

It might be on the winder side of the camera, about one or two cm. from the lens mount looks like a VERTICAL line with a small circle in the middle -----o-----

The Bolex H16R has a turret for 3 fixed lenses. This does not. (To use a Zoom lens on a Bolex, you have to lock the turret with an accessory screw.) This K3 only has one lens mount.
