Tips in Malaysia (food wise): 1. Gravy is very important in any gravy-laden dish (roti, rice, noodles etc). Thus using the spoon (vs fork) is more appropriate, so you can scoop the gravy/soup as well. Thus, when we judge any soupy dishes (ie laksa, curry mee, lontong etc), we judge the soup/gravy/curry more importantly than the noodles (which we just buy from any sundry shop). This is totally different from far-east (China, Japan, Korea) or Italian pasta, where they judge the noodle (al dente etc) more importantly than the sauce . So, if someone say something is good, but we see the soup/curry/gravy are still a lot in the bowl, we would think that they are just being polite. 2. In Malaysia, we call Chilli and Tomato Ketchup as Chilli or Tomato sos (sauce). The Soy Sauce, we call it "Kicap" (pronounced similar to ketchup : pr: kee-chup). So, if you ask for Ketchup (you actually want tomato/chilli), they will give you "kicap" (soy sauce).

1. Malaysians, when they go overseas, will start to complain: i. The food is not fresh. ii. The food is expensive. iii. People don't smile. iv. And they walk too fast. 2. And unlike the Japanese, the Koreans or the Germans, we Malaysians live to eat. 3. Any food becomes malaysianized, when it becomes affordable. E.g. the indian briani, the thai tom yam and even the japanese sushi now prepared by street vendors. 4. It is food paradise here because of variety and the cheap price. But the expensive, fancy food is available in the more upmarket restaurants. But we malaysians will find a way to make those food affordable.

Malaysian English always have 'lah' is appended to the end of the word and is not a separate word by itself. In Malay, 'lah' is used to change a verb into a command or to soften its tone, particularly when usage of the verb may seem impolite. For example, "to drink" is "minum", but "Here, drink!" is "minumlah".

The basic when comes to Roti Canai or Pratha (in Indian) is to start or hv it plain without any egg topping or sardine, milo, milk or banana stuffed inside it. Once u started to know and understand the plain ripe taste of the plain Roti Canai only then u up the antique or level of the tasting arts by mixing or stuffing it with other items like the boiled eggs u had in the video. Majority locals will go for only the plain Roti. As for the curry, dhal (lentils) and Sambal (chili paste); they are like a compulsory set of course that comes together with any Roti usually in separate small bowl or plate unless u asked them to be put onto the Roti itself which i may say, one that u had which was mixed all together is probably bcoz it is much easier to serve and much lesser to work with. The next time if u want to u can always ask for the curry separately. Juz fyi Roti Canai has become the daily staple and round the clock item not juz bfast for Malaysians although it is quite hard to find it at certain hours of the day especially during lunch time. Fyi Roti Canai from what i gathered is one of the all time favourite meal for non Malaysians especially the Westerners.

The drink that you drink is called teh Tarik, the reason of why it was pulled are to make it less hot,and by pulling it, it increase the tea aroma and make it more richness in taste, the dishes you eat is roti canai, I think the gravy is combination of dhal gravy and curry gravy, you can also order roti telur which is instead of half boil egg they serve you ,the egg itself is cooked together with the roti canai, which will make it more fluffier.

For your knowledge; the Malays has been living in South Africa since the British and the Dutch colonised the MALAY LAND or MALAY ARCHIPELAGO and brought them there for working. Who are the Cape Malays? The Cape Malay community trace their roots back to Muslim craftsman and artisans from the Malay Archipelago who were employed and brought over to South Africa by the Dutch East India Company as skilled labourers during the 1600s. The community also included servants, slaves and people whom the Dutch exiled from Southeast Asia - among them included aristocrats from the Muslim Sultanate in Java who later became the first people to introduce Islam to South Africa. When the British took over Dutch colonies in South Africa in the late 1700s and banned slavery, more and more people started to move to the area, both adopting and adding to the local way of life. Over the years, the community mushroomed to include people from other parts of Asia as well as Africa, and by the 1800s, the term ‘Malay’ was used to label all practising Muslims in the region because most of the people there spoke ‘Bahasa Melayu’ to each other at the time.
