Ladyha Colliery was served by a railway that gained access to the Eglinton Estate through a tunnel. The colliery closed in 1938 after the Eglinton Ironworks, its main customer, closed in 1928. The tunnel was said to be 'cosmetic' in that it wasn't needed but the Earl of Eglinton didn't want to see the locomotives and trucks.
