I think Dear Evan Hansen is missing a song between So Big / So Small and the Finale, and I think it should be the letter Evan writes to the Murphys explaining and owning and apologizing for his lies (and giving them his blessing to set the record straight or move on however they see fit). I don’t think words need to fail in this situation! They might fail in the moment, but I think they can heal in the days/weeks that follow. I’m not a very good song writer (and increasingly as I age, not a very good singer) - consider this a first draft for Pasek and Paul to noodle on. (I dunno, I needed to get this out of my brain, I think about this musical too much.)
Also, hello to my 200 new subscribers, please feel free to unsubscribe if this is not the kind of content you want! You’re welcome here but you do not need to stay! I'm low-key nervous to upload a video to this channel now that I have the teeniest, tiniest audience, I fear your attention, please don't cyberbully me. I am pretty pleased with this sound quality, but it is honestly funny to me at this point how extremely poor this room is for filming in: in addition to having profoundly bad lighting and off-white walls, now that I’ve got a good sound set-up going I have inadvertently turned myself in Sia with my completely covered face. How goofy! No other angle is possible. I want to record another song before the year ends because I worked hard to learn a fun piano part, and alas I think this is as good as it’s gonna get.
Anyway, the other change I would make to Dear Evan Hansen is that instead of forgiving Evan at the orchard, Zoe should kick him in the head! “Sincerely, Me” is a bop but it’s also the demented decision-making of a sociopath. And then “If I Could Tell Her”? No thank you!
