Anna: "I cut it before I was bit. Before." That's an interesting parallel between Joel and Anna because Anna lied to protect Ellie, to give her a chance at a future, whereas Joel, also lied to protect Ellie from being burdened by a chance/choice that was robbed from her.

Ellie: So time heals all wounds does it? Joel: It wasn’t time that did it….. 😭😭😭😭😭 I played this game 10 years ago and to this day it is one of the single greatest stories ever told. I remember debating with other gamers for over a year about if Joel made the right decision or not. The question of “You have a chance to save the world but the cost is that you lose the person you love the most in the world after already suffering that pain before”. The answer, the REAL answer, is that both Joel and Marlene made the wrong decision, because that decision should’ve been Ellie’s to make. In the Last Of Us (GAME) podcast Neil Druckman talks about how Joel and Marlene had no right to take that choice away from Ellie. She would’ve said yes, and then Joel would have no choice but to respect her wish. She wanted the deaths of all the people she had lost, Riley, Tess, Henry and Sam, to mean something. Even if it cost her her life. And even though a small part of her knows in her heart that Joel was lying to her she feels that she can’t let herself believe that the only person she loves in the world took away her chance to save the world. Also I love that Ashley Johnson got to play Ellie’s mom Anna. It was a beautiful full circle moment that the woman who plays Ellie in the games played her mother in the show. And it sucks that even though we have to wait a couple more years for season 2, it will be worth the wait! Until then, Endure And Survive!

If the cordyceps had killed Sarah, Joel's decision might've been different. Humanity took Sarah from Joel. Humanity tried to take Ellie from him, too. As far as he's concerned, humanity doesn't need or deserve saving. And, as a parent, I can honestly say I would've done the same.

Sarah and Ellie are two sides of the same coin. Sarah had a chance to live, but was killed without her consent because someone thought it would benefit others. Marlene tried to do the same to Ellie. (And no, Ellie didn't consent. The fact that she likely would have isn't relevant.)

Of course there are going to be more moments in TLOUS the game vs the Show, you're talking about spending 9 hours with characters versus spending 40+ Hours with them. Big difference in time that allows for a much deeper connection between the two.

As someone who have played both games thoroughly, I can definitely say that I'm not too excited to see the adaptation part II for the second season (only due to the fans reactions). I very much enjoyed the second game, (dare I say more than the first one). I don't think that you guys learning the context of the spoiler will help you change your opinion about it, based off of what I've seen from other people. I don't believe that there are any people in the middle for the second game. Everybody is strongly on one side of the other. As for this episode, I really enjoyed it and I'm glad that the adaptation was truly faithful to the game. Truly successful.

At the cost of the whole world? And ultimately, shouldn't Ellie have a say? At this point, there is this big lie underlying the relationship. And is Joel really doing this for her or for himself at this point?

@Brian Ng Joel saw Ellie go through hell by his side for the past few months. He can see she no longer is the kid he left with, the one that still wanted to live and see the world despite how ugly it could get. Both Joel and Marlene were wrong and just like Joel, Marlene also knew that, because even if Ellie did consent, they should've waked her up and explained the procedure to her. She didnt because she was a coward and couldnt fully face what she was about to do. Would you, as a parent, let your extremely traumatized child let her make the call to die, knowing fully well she indeed had plans of a future weren't she so broken currently? And also, Joel spent a few hours asleep at most and that was the doctor's first contact with Ellie. In his eyes, all he was seeing was some very incompetent ppl that were fully ready to open Ellie's brain based on empty theories and nothing more. No exams, no guarantees she would've died for something. Nothing

@@blurrylinesx8039 I am not arguing neither "for" or "against" since there is no real clear answer. I was just arguing if the decision should be that clear cut /easy -with so much as stake. As you and I both agree, Joel is flawed in his choice as well. If I had to make a choice, I want to say I want to talk it through, but clearly, there is no talking to the Firefly. But to your last point, frontier science is always a work in progress. people have died trying to find artificial heart, or find cures for AIDS, cancer, smallpox, and every other illness in history. It is trial and errors. If the show/game has any realism, it would be the same. There is no guarantee in life.

I'm gonna go ahead and assume what the spoiler you're talking about is (I won't say it too, so I don't spoil anyone who didn't play the game), and I have to say, even though it seems bad without context, it set everything into motion in the second game. And I'll go against what your friends told you and say: the second game is very, very good. It's an emotionally scarring experience, something I haven't felt with any other game ever. But it's very worthwhile. You should definitely play the game, not just watch the cutscenes, just so you're fully invested in the events, and especially you should go into it with an open mind. I think Neil Druckmann definitely took some risks with the second game, and even though it was hard to accept and wasn't what I was expecting, it gave me an incredible experience. One that couldn't be achieved without that event. Take that as you will. As for this season, I thought it was really good. I also preferred the game, but the show managed to capture the magic of it. It is very faithful to the source material, and I enjoyed the additions to the story that kinda only work in this format (the Bill episode and the scene with Ellie's mom at the beginning of this episode). And yes, the scene with Ellie's mom wasn't in any of the games.

My blood boils about the lack of consent from Ellie. She is a traumatized child and Joel did the right thing. She needs to have more maturity to make a decision and not have it based on all the loss she recently experienced. And they need a better scientist rather than a doctor who wants to yank out her brain.
@blurrylinesx8039

And it's the way they were about to take her brain off all based on THEORIES? Joel was knocked out for a few hours at most, you're telling me they just got their hands on their first and only immune patient and instead of idk, doing some exams and making sure they weren't killing her for nothing, they just rushed her into surgery?

@@blurrylinesx8039 To put it mildly, the Fireflies are not anyone you would count on to actually pull something like this off. It's why I have no faith in them to actually process a cure for anything. Everything was a low-rent, barely cobbled together operation from them.

Ellie literally has no choice here. Say Marlene explained everything to her. What happens if Ellie says no? Do you really think the Fireflies would accept that and let her go? They've been working on a cure for ~20 years and Ellie is the first immune person they've found. No way they're letting her go. So why offer her a choice when they are going to do the surgery no matter what?

So cool to see Ashley play Anna aka Ellie’s mom, having game Ellie birth her show counterpart is so poetically beautiful to me but in terms of Joel’s decision and actions at the end to me they are completely justified, as a father myself I would’ve done the same to get to either of my daughters especially after what the Fireflies have done in the name of ‘revolution’
