I owned one of these...a 99 Sunfire GT with a 5 speed. I bought it new, and it was my daily driver for 16 years. Fun as hell. They hold up a lot better in places where they don't salt the road. Sold it in 2015 with 288,000 miles, because Ford came out with the Ecoboost Mustang 😊 And yes, I still had the window sticker in the glove compartment!

My husband and I went to a dealership to get a new car. There was a little Sunfire sitting in the back of the lot, the dealer said it would not start, they tried everything. The guy told my husband that if he can get the car started, he can have it for free. My husband said, challenge accepted! It took him a few hours, but he got the car started and running really good and we ended up going home with two cars. We had that little car for over 2 years, I think. The car that we bought broke down way before the Sunfire ever did. LOL!

Honestly man I do agree with you. Little benefit the 3 speed. What IS good about it is that it's not gonna ride the pooch or shit the bed on you. The other good thing it chat it's much cheaper to maintain. I hear of people driving hard on the 5 speeds and having to change their shift linkage cables yearly. Yes the 5 speed is the better and more desirable drivetrain. I just had no choice when I purchased mine. Still shifting great at 131,500km@@samholdsworth420

CDs were commonplace in 97 but antiskip was still fairly new. So some buyers preferred cassettes for their music listening pleasure. Portable audio was decidedly primitive by comparison. It would be another 4 years before iPods came out. MP3 players weren't mainstream until about 1999.
