As a Jets fan since the early 80s all I can say is, "I don't know." I don't know what to expect from this team BUT the point has been made elsewhere that the core of this team hasn't changed all that much from last year, especially the number 1 and checking lines. That has to count for something. Clearly the top defense pair are very comfortable playing together and it looks like Pionk is playing with a bit more confidence. But as always with your Winnipeg Jets, we shall see...

Love seeing people talk about the jets in a positive manner. All you ever hear is people calling them frauds (to be fair they’ve kinda earned it 😂) but I think this year is different due to a complete overhaul of the coaching staff. You can already see the difference with both special teams, and actual competitiveness. I feel like years before, the jets would have checked out once they went down 0-2 like they did today, but Arniel gave them a big speech after the 1st period and it really kicked the team back into gear. It was great to watch them rally like that, when they historically haven’t really had it in them.

Jets fan here, I think the Jets could very well implode again, but the odds are significantly lower this season than the last two. Here's why: 1. Rick Bowness coaching structures never have longevity with teams. They get wins for a while and then eventually lead to massive, roster-questioning dissapointment. Look what happened to the Stars; they build a great team, go to the finals, and disappear the next season. 2. the lesson for the Jets over the last 3 years has been DO MORE WITH LESS. We got rid of Wheeler, got better. Got rid of Dubois, got WAY better (i know we got Vilardi back but we pay him way less). Now, we got rid of Dillon and Schmidt, and maybe we'll get better. Never forget Chevy's eye for depth. Collin Miller has looked great as the #5 defenseman. 3. The eye test - watch this team and watch their highlights. The Jets have been a team who capitalized on scoring dirty goals, the dump and chase (my worst nightmare to watch, it never works), and misplays by the other team, which makes them good until their schedule gets tougher. This year, the Jets control play WAY better. Watch the highlights, every goal seems to involve quick, calculated passing and shooting. Coaching right now is the best we could ask for imo. If y'all remember when Bowness was on leave twice in the last two seasons and we went on a little run with Arniel (I think last year it was like 7 wins in 9 games or something) that's why we promoted him. and look how it turned out.

I’ve been watching my jets religiously the last 4 seasons. The chemistry I think in my opinion is the driving factor of why this team is doing so good early on. Helle is obviously a big part of this team but it seem as if the top 6 has evolved there game defensively. We also changed both special teams coaches and our Special teams has been absolutely miller with the new systems. Pionk has evolved with a better more solid d partner and miller and fleury have been amazing additions to upgrade our blue line from years prior. Sorry for the paragraph just my two cents

Something that I've noticed, as a long time Jets fan, is that we don't really have a superstar. Sure, say all you want about Connor, Morrissey, Schiefele, Hellebuyck, but when the entire team isn't completely dialed in, then you can see what happens. Out in 5, two years in a row. Really, the only thing the Jets need to do differently to go on a deep run is to stick to our game, and dictate play. And seeing how Arniel is coaching this team so far, it seems very possible that there has been some sort of mindset change. I'm waiting for the eventual fall-off, but from what I've seen so far, I can't help but hope for the best. Here's for hoping we go strong 'till April! GO JETS GO!! ✈✈✈

You're right - it looks similar in many ways, except even more similar if that makes sense. The bigger the hope for the Jets, the bigger the dashed hope - or something like that. My advice is: Keep Helle to 50-55 games. Somehow do that. And he will be stronger in the playoffs. PLUS the Jets must start WEARING white in the playoffs, so as to match the fans. If they do those two things, they will win the cup.

If they stay healthy, if the coaching is consistent and smart, if the AHL players from the moose are able to contribute, theres no reason they can't go all the way. In fact, the previous years failures have made it so that Jets fans, unlike leafs fans, won't be planning any parades prematurely, but that's why it may just end up as a pleasant surprise. I've seen them make some dumb mistakes this year, but they have been able to correct them and finish with a win, and that's what matters ultimately. If they can keep it up, I'll be pleased as a quarter season ticket holder.

The team looks good. There's a little slop to clean up but the forecheck is good, the cycle game is good, the goaltending is good. The ingredients are all there, and I want to believe it's different from last year, but the truth is we won't know until we get there. The young guys seem a bit more comfortable in the league, and honestly I'm loving what I'm seeing from Colin Miller, but yeah, this is a team that's passed the eye test with flying colors many times before, only to fall apart when it really counts. Probably the biggest thing giving me hope, the last two years they started strong and eventually fell apart, but the fall happened a little later each time. If the trend continues, maybe this year they fall apart at the cup parade, at which point, who cares? Also on the positives side, the movement in the O-zone has been greatly improved, especially on the powerplay, which was a serious sore spot last year. Watching the game against the Pens and hearing Pittsburg announcers lauding their team for shutting down the best powerplay in the league on their first chance felt weird, but that's where the numbers are right now. We wait, we hope, we see. It's fun to hope, right?

I feel like this team is more committed defensively then they have been. I feel like in years past the mentality has been oh well we’ve got a vezina winning goalie in net so we barely have to put in any effort defensively. This year as well the special teams look vastly improved and yes I know it’s only 5 games but I kinda feel it this year. I feel like if Chevy can make a move for a top 4 d man (I’d like Rasmus Anderson) then this team could be a legit threat come playoffs

Imo this year feels different bec. this is the 2.0 ver of last year’s team. Last year was a 1st yr for the LA boys and the system was still being worked out. I think reg. season would be similar to last yr. a top 5/6 finish in the league. Real test would be playoffs and this time its different bec. Bowness is out. I really think they lost in the 1st rnd was they didn’t adjust. They sticked to Bones’ system w/c wasn’t working and just rolled with that. I’m hoping this year Arniel would be wise enough to employ a different and more flexible play come playoff time.

The Jets are playing well, we won't know the Stanley Cup winner for another 8 months though so don't plan the parade route yet. Their schedule has been soft. Aside from the Oilers in the opener they've played a few league bottom teams (Chicago & San Jose). They won in OT vs Minnesota at home (who played the day before while the Jets didn't). Today's win over Pittsburgh is another team unlikely to make the playoffs & are well past their prime. When the schedule gets more difficult & Winter begins we'll see how they really are.

Every year people are pushing this time but they are just regular season warriors they completely disappear and they have not massively improved since last year. It's a joke to suggest this team can even remotely go the distance.
