My buddy works in the Jazz front office in an administrative role and said there’s been buzz about a Lauri trade, but he and a few others don’t see Utah trading him unless the package was too good to pass up. AKA, young players and a load of draft picks. I think Lauri is extremely talented, but I view him as a Mikal Bridges where yes he’s a great player, but his stock rises significantly where he is the main option, but isn’t a guy you can build a team around. He’d be a great maybe second option, but probably as your 3rd or even 4th. Considering he’s on a bad team with the main role, he looks significantly better, but it’s not like he’s new in the league. @Shortballa11 Well, they had 2 picks, drafted 2 guards, and moved the one that was projected to go higher. I feel like the extension "deadline" is a much bigger deal than just a throwaway mention at the end of the video and handicaps Utah more. It's also why either the Dubs and Spurs can sit and not have to offer their best deal since every day that ticks closer to that extension deadline, the less leverage Ainge has. It behooves Ainge to trade Lauri before it gets to that extension deadline because all Lauri has to do is wait until Aug 7 to sign his extension and then he can't be traded this season. Suddenly Utah has a floor raiser on their team signed long term that is untradeable and could put them outside the top 10. Then the Lauri chip is wasted. Lauri could also just not sign the extension at all and then he's playing on an expiring deal which won't get the same value either since Ainge would be desperate to move him to get something back. Of course this is Ainge so he thinks he's slick enough to think he can fleece someone but I do feel like he's overplayed his hand.

When you build Spurs trades, put Harrison Barnes and Zach Collins in there, because the Spurs are not trading these amazing contracts they sealed with super valuable players. Keldon Johnson makes half of what Vassell does, and averaged 22 ppg a couple of years ago. These are deals you get to keep, not to trade, because in the current free agency market players get paid far too much. Devin is not leaving the Spurs, he is untouchable and wont be moved no matter who is on the other side of the trade. His deal is too good to enable you to build a deep team around wemby

Neither the Spurs nor the Warriors should trade for Lauri right now, especially since he is one year away from unrestricted free agency. He is 27; he should be sent to a contending team or a team on the rise, not a rebuilding team or a team who's stuck in purgatory.

I wish people would stop dragging San Antonio into all these trade rumors. The dumbest thing they can do right now is trade all these valuable pics, especially in the 2025 and 2026 drafts for a player who doesn't move the needle, like Laurie, and then have to turn around and give him a max contract. That is the stupidest way you can try to build a team right now, especially in the absolutely loaded Western Conference. They need to focus on getting Victor a second star in the draft over the next couple of years. Jordan and LeBron didn't even win their first championships till their late 20s. Everybody needs to chill out on thinking that Wemby has to be competing in year two.

Trading vassell and 3 firsts for lauri would maybe be the biggest fleece ainge has pulled off yet. I think lauri is a great player but vassell has potential to be just as good if not better, and he’s a lot younger with less injury risk in my opinion. It’s crazy to think that the spurs would be willing to trade vassell for him straight up, let alone adding multiple firsts.

If I’m the Spurs this is my best offer: Keldon Johnson, SA 2025 1st, CHI 2025 1st, SA 2027 1st, BOS 2028 pick swap, SA 2028 1st, and MIN 2031 1st. I’d prioritize keeping the ATL picks and the 2030 pick swaps they’ve accumulated bc chances are one of those teams is going to stink by then.

Let me start by saying I’m 56 and a huge spurs fan for my whole life . But the other spurs fans comments on here are ridiculous . Saying how trading Vassell is a mistake . That shows two things. 1) you are simply thinking with your hearts and not your brain 2) you know nothing about basketball Lauri is an all nba caliber player who fits a position and several needs that the spurs want . Vassell will NEVER be half the player Lauri is . Never. If you think so , you haven’t watched either player or you just don’t understand basketball . Plus Pop just said tonight that Castle will play serious minutes , because of how advanced he is already . What position do you think he’s gonna play? Not gonna take CP3, Wemby or Barnes spots . He isn’t going to play the 4 or 5. So that leaves Vassell as the 6th man. A place he will flourish ! Starting five of CP3 , Castle , Barnes, Lauri and Wemby would put them as a contender . You keep Vassell , they win35/40 games . It’s insane to want to keep him lol Whatever the spurs do , please trade keldon . Give him away for free for all I care .

I don’t get why everyone wants the spurs to compete right now. Like let them build a roster with good talent first cause Lauri is 28 by the time Wemby is 25 he’ll be 32 and you want to trade Devin Vassel for that?

If Utah can get Kuminga & all available GSW firsts, Danny better take that... Keeping their top 10 pick in this year's deep draft us crucial. You get to tank, keep that pick, get 2 future picks, ANND you get to a potential All-Star forward. Even if the Spurs offer more picks, Vassell is a 6'5" SG. There are a lot more of those out there than a 6'8" combo forward.

What's all this gibberish about the Jazz "losing the pick to OKC"?? A) They already got value when they traded the pick. B) It's top 10 protected anyway. Don't act like they're losing a chance at Cooper Flagg. C) IF the Jazz stay out of the bottom 10, it'll be because some or all of the 7 (SEVEN!) first round picks they've scooped up in the last two years have worked out really well for them, with more 1st rounders than they need coming up. I don't think Ainge is as pressured in the Markonnen situation as some of y'all seem to think.

Where is the best fit for Lauri? Is it on the spurs beside wemby? Or the thunder maybe starting beside Chet and bringing ihart off the bench all 3 getting 25 to 30 mins a game sometimes going big and moving Lauri to 3. Or is it a completely different team. I personally would love the thunder. Just that big man rotation would be great defensively either way ihart and Chet great offensively with Chet and Lauri. Can go small with shai jdubb dort Caruso chet can go huge with shai jdubb lauri chet ihart can really play anyway they want.

@shorewall lol I tend to agree with that. With that said the 25 draft is loaded and okc does own the jazz pick. Trading them that pick back plus maybe 3 additional picks one would think is worth 5 firsts from someone else. I'm not sure if they have the salaries to trade. But man a team of Shai jdubb dort chet ihart Lauri Caruso is pretty insane. "[The Spurs] can't be a 25 win team next season." The Spurs were +5 with Tre Jones and Wemby on the floor. They now have the Point God and Stephon Castle to add to their point guard rotation, and we can expect Wemby to play over 30 minutes a game, probably close to 35 minutes. Also, Wemby progressed tremendously as a player through the season. The Spurs, without bringing anybody else in, are going to comfortably make the playoffs this season. Markannen would be great, but I actually really want the Spurs to bring in Walker Kessler. He's a fantastic defensive 7 footer, and we're currently witnessing just how deadly a twin towers lineup could be in the French national team. Also, the Spurs really need a backup center that lets them tread water while Vic is on the bench.
