He was in a small village in Western Kenya through what he calls a real
African birth. He left a stellar career as an accomplished oil marketer to try his hand in politics in 2012.
The two-term Jubilee Party legislator has been serving as the Majority Whip in the National Assembly, a position he rose to, two years ago when his party resolved to change its Leadership in the House. He says that his relationship with his party leader, H.E. the President has made his work easier.
As a Whip, his role involves allocating Members to serve in various Committees and enforcing party discipline among Members.
He avers that though in allocating Members to Committees he has to consider his party’s interests, he believes that Members should be allocated Committees that oversight areas/sectors where they have a background experience in. He says that due to his vast experience in the Oil Industry, upon joining Parliament, he expected to assume the position of the Chairman, Departmental Committee on Energy, but it was never to be, because the then Majority Whip did not give him an opportunity to. Ironically, this has been his job for the last two years.
He says his greatest achievement serving as a legislator is the transformation of the education sector in his constituency.
His advise to those joining politics and seeking to be lawmakers in the forthcoming general elections, is that they should not assume that politics is an avenue for quick riches.
