This book's main villain? Bananas. Varrick's return? Bananas. Sculpture that represents harmonic convergence? I agree with Bolin, it's a banana.

I love love LOVE the family dynamics they introduce in S3. I mean, her family is kinda fucked, but I love the fact that we get that backstory, you know? Also, the way they made Lin extra bitchy for these episodes (and then had her wake up super cheerful and magically over years of resentment) is heavy-handed... but I love how they gave you all the information you need to understand that Suyin is still irresponsible, manipulative, entitled trash, but they don't shove it down your throat. Some viewers see through her, and others fall for her bullshit just like the characters in her world would, which I think is some pretty well-balanced writing.

@chrisbergsten1429 I don't think she's entirely lying. But I don't think because she's telling the truth about everything either. There is one thing though I think. Lin is not just angry at her. She's angry at herself. She most likely had to raise her sister. More than her mother did so that betrayal destroyed her emotionally and mentally.
@beccazach

@@chrisbergsten1429 I didn't see it as heavy-handed in the slightest. It's exactly like Zuko's 'metamorphosis' in Book 2 of ATLA. Zuko freed Appa which forced him to let go of his anger/pride in catching the avatar and finally find peace in himself and not be angry anymore, even causing him to become sick like Lin did. Lin's always been a no-nonsense person in Republic City, but being in her sister's city triggered her memories of being angry & resentful of her family again. And she didn't instantly become cheerful permanently, she's just refreshed from getting all her thoughts and frustrations taken out after years of having it repressed, so she finally feels lighter. Zuko didn't become permanently cheerful either and he was finally positive about Iroh's teashop, but all his internal feelings about his honor still existed which caused Zuko to betray him. Meaning Lin still can harbor anger or sadness about her past, but she's no longer letting it control her and she can choose whether she wants to value her relationship with her sister.

And you got to one of the better episodes of the show. The Beifong family drama is tequnically a side show but it is great. For the people who are obsessed with a serialized adventure show, remember that the best episodes of Korra and Avatar are almost completely detachable from the plot. The Southern Raiders Tales from Ba Sing Se and Zuko Alone. You get the idea.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Toph, but I still feel Bumi was the greatest earthbender. While we never saw him metalbend, tho I believe he could if he tried, he still pulled off a feat that even Toph couldn't do, and that's earthbend without using his arms or legs. It's similar to how Amon/Noatak was able to bloodbend without using his arms.
@thedarkemissary

He motioned with his head I believe. And Toph has a couple of those shoulder, finger, hip bends throughout the show. She also sneeze bends at one point I believe.
@mastaovdafist3551

@thedarkemissary but to not even be in contact with earth is what made that feat incredible! During the eclipse, Bumi was able to flex and send dozens of boulders directly at him while he was suspended high off of the ground. He was literally bound in place in that cage, so to bend THAT much without his arms or legs is insane!

"Korra didn't have to go that far" but Lin can? Being absolutely rude to her NIECE? and "awe" is all you can about that? I don't care what drama you've had in the past over 3 decades ago but it doesn't give you the right to be mean to your niece that has not done anything to you except wanting to know you.
@ninjaboy4831
8 ай бұрын
Lin can reject a bond with her niece if she wants to. She didnt even want to spend a single night with them. Suyin invited every bit of this onto herself by disrespecting her sister's wishes of not seeing her just to appease her own wishes. Korra is out of line for getting invovled in someone elses family problem especially while taking sides and not even knowing the full story.
